3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thorpe429 (3562) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAY 14, 2011
Bottle direct from Belgium and poured into a Captain Lawrence tulip.
Pours a light copper color with a good, though slightly short-lasting, white head. Good spotty lacing on the sides of the glass and a collar throughout. The nose strikes me immediately as being pretty light on the dark fruits, with more caramel and malt coming through. Aside from that, a spicy character takes over and really sends a few good notes. Light hops there as well. Different, but quite nice. The flavor is along the same lines--nice light spice with some bready malt and light fruits. Hoppy character is there as well, and then combines quite well with the spiciness to form a beautiful finish. Medium body. Nicely done, Struise.

Vintage 2006. Shared bottle courtesy of tarjei. Escapes from bottle half a minute after opening. Fluffy, light brown head on murky, brown body, particles visible. Prune, spices and a hint of berries in the aroma. Sweet, acidic and bitter flavors with notes of toasted tobacco. Medium to full body. Light syrupy with medium carbonation. Finishes dry.

2007 vintage. Dark iced tea pour with a nice offshore head. Nose is very sweet and has the characteristics of a dubbel and champagne. Lots of fruit and toffee. I enjoyed the aroma Taste follows the nose to a degree but it has a sweet wine flavor which I am not sure about. Nice warming finish. Nice beer.

2007 Vintage bottle@bar: tasted alongside a 2009 Pannepot, this one had a lighter body and a more dominating liquorice taste, slightly lighter but still dark brown with very small dirty white head, overripe dark fruits, raisins, figs prunes, brown sugar, toffee, dark malt, hazelnuts, sweet with spices, good but a touch to much liquorice to me, preferred the 2009 Pannepot

Pannepeut 2008. Bottle (33cl) from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Small, light beige head, good retention - settles as a fat film and sticky ring with a little lacing. Colour is hazy, watery golden brown. Nose is concentrated sweet fruity malt, figs, prunes, caramel. The nose was powerful, but appears modest compared to the mindblowing taste. Intense raisin-like malt, wonderfully balanced by sweet-acidic fruit and mild bitterness. Medium/full body, soft carbonation. Lovable.

03/08/2010 33cl bottle @ home 2007 - Thanks to Klaas for the bottle!
Aroma: (compared to the Pannepot) more cloves. Taste: much spicier, a bit more bitter, hoppier than the Pannepot.

11.2oz bottle, 2007 edition. pours a hazy, dark russet color with a thin, off-white head and light lacing. aroma is great with big dark fruit notes of raisin, fig, and prunes backed by sweet toffee, cider spices, and hints of honey wheat bread. flavor is delicious as well, perhaps not as smooth or elegant as the rest of the Pannepot crew but nice nonetheless with belgian yeast, brown sugar, orange peel, and light toast backed by candied raisins and fig newton filling. palate is medium bodied with crisp carbonation and a short, dry, dark fruit finish. overall, a very nice belgian strong.
