Bottle pours a deep brown with a thin beige foam that falls immediately to a skim of fine bubbles around the rim of the glass. Aroma of dark fruit, sweet malt, raisin, brown sugar with an earthy & spicy element. Flavor is initially rather intense brown sugary sweetness with more dark fruit, figs and raisins. As that fades, dates & plums with a very faint wisp of alcohol and a very light tangy sensation like grape/apple skins. Finishes clean with a moderately thin palate and lightly carbonated.

fantastic, it has high malts, caramel and toffee. this beer would go great with a hearty beef dish.

UPDATED: AUG 30, 2008 The aroma is sweet with dark fruit, brown sugar, malt, and leaves. The appearance is light brown/red with an average head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. This is good but not great.

Bottle tasted at Uber Tavern. So I have not been able to do the vertical test with the darker Pannepot, so I feel a bit blind in this rating. Regardless, I picked up many of the same notes from the cousin in this beer, just with a much rounder and less potent presence. Still chocolatey, mildly roasty and sweet, plum still exists, even a bit of banana. Lots of spice thrown in the mix. Mainly, its almost the same to me, just without the punch. Excellent beer!

33cl bottle at home: Very deep and dark hazy chestnut brown, almost black. Bubbly medium dark head collapses somewhat quickly. Aromas of dark malt, brown sugar, and raisins. Coffee and tree-bark add a nice earth note. Dark spices run underneath the sweetness. A bit of aniseed. Alcohol is easily roused from the glass. Starts out quite sweet in the mouth. Moves to sugared mocha latte for a second before roast and alcohol break things up a bit. Sweet caramel malt. Alcohol soaked prunes come and go in the middle. Something lightly tangy, for lack of a better word, plays with the alcohol and sugar. Towards the end there is again prune but this time with alcohol and a touch of molasses. A touch of oxidation perhaps on the end too? Full mouthfeel with an odd dustiness on the tip of the tongue. Very nice beer, but I prefer the original pannepot.

Pours dark caramel with no head. Nose is toffee, caramel, dried fruit. The flavor is the same with a strange tangy fruit finish.

Side by side with the good other, thanks for sharing Yaniv. Hazy brownish red with almost no head. Sweet and round caramel. Dark malt character. Figgy sweet dark fruit. Raisins and small prune. Full creamy rich body. Big full sweet figgy date riains. Big dark malt, big alcohol, but not boozy. Very quad-like. some chocolate, small roast.

Fantastic beer. Another bottle from Uber Tavern taken to go this time. OPens with a light nose of brown sugar and alcohol. Color is cloudy, dusty brown - very interesting to watch. Plenty of sediment, too. Looks like it was oak-aged. Flavor for me was very clear: caramel, butter, salt, and violets up front into green raisins, red wine, hints of oak and figs to finish. Really quite something; due to its consistency, probably easier drinking than its darker cousin.
