COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

750 ml bottle. 2008 vintage.
Pours a dark amber brown colour with a beige foamy head with good retention. Aroma is rather sweet and fruity with notes of ficus, bourbon, wood, caramel, . Flavour of strong heavy caramel, dried apricot, bourbon, mellow honey, ficus, wood, weak vanilla and some alcohol. Full bodied, smooth mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Finishes smooth, lingering, warming, fruity and somewhat tangy, where bourbon barrel clearly is present. Complex and heavy. Excellent stuff.

75 cl bottle (10,5%). BBE 30.05.2017.
Pours hazy dark copper color with head. Aroma of oak, dark ripe fruits, yeast, caramel, dark berries and some molasses. Flavor of ripe fruits, sweet caramel malts, molasses, mild oaky notes, rose hip and some mild sourish fruity notes. Somewhat heavy beer, complex and full-flavored. Very nicely aged, almost sourish palate with a sweetish finish. Excellent.

75 cl bottle vintage 2008 (10,5%) @ home, BBE 30.05.2017. Thanks lusikka!
Aroma has berries, some redcurrants, bourbon notes, wood, hints of vanilla and spices. Flavour is slightly tart and somewhat sour with bourbon notes, some red wine, vanilla, redcurrants and woody notes. Not your typical quadrupel, quite sweet and unique. Heavy stuff and really slow beer – but I like it!

Had a couple pulls from bsuedekum’s pour at Local Option- thanks again, Blake! Pours a hazed toffee color with virtually no head, just a trace of a ring. Lots of fruity, nectary notes, caramel, oak, mellow bourbon, figs, and dates. Not big bourbon barrel character. Much more fruitiness from the Belgian quad base. Medium-full-bodied, with a vinous, chewy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Not bad but I had higher hopes for a bourbon barrel quad from this brewery.

Sample on draft @ ZBF 2013 Vinous, alcohol aroma, mazipan, caramel, almonds, something sweet fruity in it. Caramelcolour, hazy. Small, yet lacing head. Huge taste. Very rich. Caramel, almonds, marzipan, roasted, getting more bitter every sip. Sticky in the mouth, full bodied, alcoholwarmth. Short finish of alcohol and roast bitter.

Draught Orange-copper beer with a small off-white head. Old wine, madeirisated, spirits as brandy or Bourbon (if relatively little vanilla), bit smoked too. Sweet, alcoholic, spirit (combined with food, turns out utterly boozy). dried apricot (apricot brandy?)? Slick, alcoholwarming, fruitsyrup or -concentrate feel. Just a tad too syrupy, IMHO to be truly great.

Draft at Oakquinox 2013. Amber pour, with a slight haze and an off-white head. Sweet malts, dark dried fruit, belgian candy sugar, over-ripe fruit, fig, oak, yeast, and a touch of vanilla. Pretty nice, but didn’t wow me.
