4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from May ’12. Pours a hazy light brown with a foamy off white diminishing head. Aroma is big and beautiful boozy sweet apples and pears, rich vinous notes, fresh cut wood, The flavor keeps going with apple skins, lively yeast, molasses, earth, leather, and deep Bourbon notes deep on the palate and after. The feel is thick, sticky, very lively with big soft carbonation. This just goes and goes. So lovely, rich, and captivating.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Fairly mild for a Belgian quad. The bourbon was very apparent and added a nice sweetness to this beer. Pretty good overall and very good for a quad.

750 ml bottle
A very interesting quad with a sour twist worked out pretty well. If I had a complaint it was a bit on the expensive side. Otherwise if it came in a 12 ounce bottle I would have been just as happy to rate a fine release from Struise.
Aroma / Appearance - A caramelly brown base sits below a musty tan head. The reddish hue traps a mixture of old chocolate, white wine, and malt. The creamy contribution of the bourbon gives some nice depth. The sourness does not stand out much from the other scents.
Flavor / Palate - Creamy vanilla, maple, caramel, and more stick in the thick mouthfeel. The muted bourbon aspect tickles the throat for a second. This has a nice big body that clings to the palate. A very unusual quad would be hard to finish off alone so share it with a few friends.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
10oz snifter on tap at Neon’s, for $10. Caramel malt, candy sugar, dates, dark fruit, toffee in the nose. Some butter scotch and vanilla barrel character. Big pineapple tropical fruit aroma in the nose. Bigger body, sort of slick. Lighter, soft carbonation. Some barrel, light vanilla character amidst the red fruity sweet flavors... A bit sweet overall, light alcohol warmth in the finish, light bite, light spiciness. Solid belgian strong ale, though I’d preferred a bit more strength and less big sweetness. Decent belgian strong ale overall. $10 for it hurts, though. Would prefer a pannepot reserva any day.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap. Poured a hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, brown sugar and dark bourbon wood aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Heavy bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout complex brew.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
75cl bottle. Clear brown color with medium, thick dirty white head.
NOSE : old bread, vinegar, apple, wine, caramel, vanilla, booze, nail polish.
SIP : very thick with creamy texture. Low carbonation. The creamy texture is amazing. It carry sweet lactic notes of caramel malts. It gets a bit sour that develops through wood, wine like flavors. The booze follows but stays well balanced. In the end it warms. After couple of sips it is clear I will get drunk with this. Finish is dry and sweet in the same time. Each sip the beer reflects well it’s bourbon barrel aging. Aftertaste is acidic and sweet, wood and vanilla, booze and earth.
OVERALL : what a brew. Aging in oak for couple of years makes this beer quite unique. Huge.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
19/10/2013 Eurhop (tap). Color miele, poco torbida, schiuma leggerissima.
