This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Ryohei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

Three year old $40 bottle shared by Adam, thanks! Pours cloudy orange brown with a beige head. Aroma is dark fruit, raisin, banana. Flavor is very sweet, caramel, bread, raisin. Clove spice in the finish. Barrel is there in the finish too, but not strong.

33cl bottle (2011). Hazy amber colour with a nice tan head. Liquorice, dates, peach and alcohol in the aroma. Average carbonation and medium to full body. Taste is medium sweet and medium bitter with some sourness and a long dry finish. Overall, more than a beer, a digestive.

Excellent !

Bottle. Deep red with orange hue with a pretty off-white head. Aroma is packed with oaky goodness, red wine, tons of dried fruits, apricot, dark berries, a sprinkle of vanilla as it warms, berries, figs and apples. Exquisite aroma and stunning complexity! Taste is more mild and dangerously drinkable; sweet and slightly acidic towards the finish, which is a nice balane. Notes of dark berries, oak and much more oaky wine-stuff. Alcohol nowhere to be found, save for an oily palate. Delicious. I could down this sessionable quadruple(!) by the barrel.

UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 Bottle. Pours hazy amber orange with creamy off-white one finger head. Aroma hits you with loads of belgian yeast and esteres. Dried fruits, apricots, dark berries, sweet and caramel malts. Burnt figs. So many oaky layers in this one. Got the red wine dark berries and tannins, oak and vanilla from the barrel as it warms. Has some sour apples too. Taste is a mellow palate of dried fruits. Complex but mild. Bready malts, caramel with dry oaky vanilla finish, slight spicy. Red wine does bring this beer a edge towards the finish that is hard to find in this strong sweet beers. Body is full and really creamy but disappears rather quickly, letting you ready for next sip. It doesn’t hit you in any way, it’s just one long cozy journey for the taste buds. No absence of the alcohol, just a oily mouthfeel. Really well balanced beer and kind of a sessionable quad!

Keg at CBC2012, from some old notes. They cheer and sing as you order it. Dark brown pour, small white head. Rich and boozy nose, bourbon, vanilla and a bit of spice. Slightly thin in the mouth, even for style. Flavour of figs, toasty malt, deep rich boozy bourbon. Slightly one dimension, disappointing
