COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

10oz snifter on tap at Neon’s, for $10. Caramel malt, candy sugar, dates, dark fruit, toffee in the nose. Some butter scotch and vanilla barrel character. Big pineapple tropical fruit aroma in the nose. Bigger body, sort of slick. Lighter, soft carbonation. Some barrel, light vanilla character amidst the red fruity sweet flavors... A bit sweet overall, light alcohol warmth in the finish, light bite, light spiciness. Solid belgian strong ale, though I’d preferred a bit more strength and less big sweetness. Decent belgian strong ale overall. $10 for it hurts, though. Would prefer a pannepot reserva any day.

Tap. Poured a hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, brown sugar and dark bourbon wood aroma. Medium to abundant body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Heavy bourbon sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate to long duration. Standout complex brew.

Bottle. Pours copper, light haze, big tan head, little retention/lace, but some legs. Aroma of fig, toffee, fruity ester, vanilla, lightly vinous, honey. Taste is sweet, but not cloying; vanilla, dark fruit, light wine, toffee. Palate is soft, slick, sweet finish. Nice.

75cl bottle. Clear brown color with medium, thick dirty white head. NOSE : old bread, vinegar, apple, wine, caramel, vanilla, booze, nail polish. SIP : very thick with creamy texture. Low carbonation. The creamy texture is amazing. It carry sweet lactic notes of caramel malts. It gets a bit sour that develops through wood, wine like flavors. The booze follows but stays well balanced. In the end it warms. After couple of sips it is clear I will get drunk with this. Finish is dry and sweet in the same time. Each sip the beer reflects well it’s bourbon barrel aging. Aftertaste is acidic and sweet, wood and vanilla, booze and earth. OVERALL : what a brew. Aging in oak for couple of years makes this beer quite unique. Huge.

19/10/2013 Eurhop (tap). Color miele, poco torbida, schiuma leggerissima.

Draft at GBD (Golden Brown Delicious) in DC. After starting with the Oostvleteren 12, I was shocked to see such a difference between that Quad and this Quad. Poured a dark orange, honey-looking brew, with a small, wispy off-white head. Aroma was nice fruit notes, honey with a touch of hops. Touch of vanilla, some notes of woody barrel come out in this one. Touch of boozy bourbon notes, but surprisingly and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Pours hazy Golden Amber with a lasting off-White head. Aroma of fruit on the turn and delicious bourbon vanilla. The Bourbon ageing is delicately done and it allows the other elements to blend beautifully. Very well balanced. Toffee, dried fruits and vanilla with a hearty warmth from the booze. Outstanding.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange brown with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is belgian spice, oak and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with candy sugar, sweet fruit and oak. Very good.
