This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

Nice quadrupel, has an oaky taste of dark fruits and malt. Bit too much on the sweet side though.

Bruine kleur, weinig schuim. Heeft een jaar in de kelder gelegen. Ruikt fantastisch, zoethout, drop, hoestdrank, wijn. Smaakt goddelijk, zacht, zoet, klein beetje bitter. Super!

Bottle. Dark amber pour with thick frothy white head. Aroma is boozy, fruity, oxidization notes. Taste is boozy, fruity, lots of bourbon, oaky. Palate is rich, quite sweet, medium carbonation. Decent sipper, nothing to write home about however.

2009 vintage on tap. A hazed amber ale with a thin lacing off white head. In aroma, superb candy sugar malt with light licorice, alcohol, faint bourbon notes, very nice. In mouth, an excellent mix of fruity Belgian malt with candy sugar, light mix of licorice, coriander and curacao, smooth warming alcohol, light barrel quality, excellent. On tap at Real a Gastropub.

Growler from the Party Source. Pours a hazy amber/caramel color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have sweet caramel malts, toffee, dark fruits, apple, wood, and some alcohol bite. Mild spirit notes with some vanilla. Sweetness is pretty high. Good, not great. I got this at the right price much better than the bottle price.

Bottle @Craig’s. Pours amber with a thin head. Touch of sherry on the nose wit ha big medicinal cough candy vibe going on, this goes onto the tongue as well. Could have done wit ha little bit more fruit for me.

Draft pour. Pours a clear copper with a beige head of foam. The aroma is a blast of bourbon and then it gives way to notes of dark fruits and esters. The taste is big on the bourbon and dark fruits initially, but toward the back end, I’m getting some tartness. An interesting beer for sure. Very big bodied and it has low to medium carbonation.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours golden with a thin white head. Aromas are sherry-like, honey and raisins. Taste has a sweet kick, and spicy yeast. Finishes a bit sticky, pretty nice though.
