This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

Draft at GBD (Golden Brown Delicious) in DC. After starting with the Oostvleteren 12, I was shocked to see such a difference between that Quad and this Quad. Poured a dark orange, honey-looking brew, with a small, wispy off-white head. Aroma was nice fruit notes, honey with a touch of hops. Touch of vanilla, some notes of woody barrel come out in this one. Touch of boozy bourbon notes, but surprisingly and dangerously drinkable.

Bottle. Pours hazy Golden Amber with a lasting off-White head. Aroma of fruit on the turn and delicious bourbon vanilla. The Bourbon ageing is delicately done and it allows the other elements to blend beautifully. Very well balanced. Toffee, dried fruits and vanilla with a hearty warmth from the booze. Outstanding.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy orange brown with small white head that diminishes to nothing. The aroma is belgian spice, oak and caramel. Medium mouthfeel with candy sugar, sweet fruit and oak. Very good.

Bottle shared courtesy of Kermis. Road soda on the way back from Borefts 2013. Poured a hazy medium amber with a broken white head. The aroma is rich fruity with lots of creamy caramel. The flavour is rich alcoholic bitter with a big sweet liqourice boozy alcohol palate. Great to share but I won’t be drinking a whole bottle on my own.

Tap at the Brugge shop. Nose of bourbon barrel, vanilla, orange, caramel, toffee. Deep amber color, clear, with lace. Sweet flavor of orange, toffee, and vanilla. Nice barrel character, which is very evident but not overwhelming. Tangy fruitys, orange, apricot. Very smooth, perfect body. Lovely, really.

Bottle. Pours copper/ruby with a fluffy off white head. Aroma is buttered toast. Taste is extremely buttery with notes of apple, oak and booze. Palate is smooth, round and full. This is a really nice beer but not worth the money.

750. Wow, wow, wow. What a treat. Thanks N! Pours a murky dark brown with a dense and creamy dark tan head. Big sweetish nose, nice mix of apricot and juicy vinous notes with a little soft touch of candied lemon in the background and some sweet spiciness from the wood. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Tart caramel, apricot, juicy blackberries, spicy oak, a little lemon glaze, and plenty of phenolic bite on the mid palate. Long tangy finish. Say who say de Struise ain’t still bad motherfuckers? This is an amazing beer, and amazingly complex to boot.
