This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

Color cobre tupido con espuma color crema. Aromas de frutas confitadas, madera y licor. En boca entra densa y dulce, marcadamente afrutada, qie pasa a una acidez calida que muestra licor y madera. Muy rica.

A nice dark amber beer, with a nice white head. In the nose there is bourbon, fruit, light hoppy, light yeast and alcohol. It is a full bodied beer with a very good fine carbonation. In the taste there is bourbon, sweet, alcohol, fruity, banana, and a bit tanine. The aftertaste is long, sweet, bourbon, alcohol, dry from the oak. A very nice oak aged amber beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank with Rik, Marijn and Patrick at Malden 11-1-2014. Cloudy beer. Light brown. Very small amount of foam. Very sweet, rich beer. Ends with a sour note, probably due to being aged on wine barrels. Very nice beer, too bad of the thinness, the taste does not last very long.

Bottle (on Christmas)... Poured cloudy, brownish with a mild forming head. Dark grains, toasted, charred wood with hints of bourbon. Nice dryness towards the finish with a big Belgian yeast character. Dark fruits like figs and raisins along with vanilla and toffee with nice esters too.

Bottled. Pours hazy deep amber with small beige head. Aroma of caramel, vanilla, overriped fruits, raisin and notes of bourbon. Sweet flavor that ends up more dry and bitter. Full bodied, oily to syrupy texture and soft carb. An excellent quad.

Bottle from May ’12. Pours a hazy light brown with a foamy off white diminishing head. Aroma is big and beautiful boozy sweet apples and pears, rich vinous notes, fresh cut wood, The flavor keeps going with apple skins, lively yeast, molasses, earth, leather, and deep Bourbon notes deep on the palate and after. The feel is thick, sticky, very lively with big soft carbonation. This just goes and goes. So lovely, rich, and captivating.

Bottle. Fairly mild for a Belgian quad. The bourbon was very apparent and added a nice sweetness to this beer. Pretty good overall and very good for a quad.

A very interesting quad with a sour twist worked out pretty well. If I had a complaint it was a bit on the expensive side. Otherwise if it came in a 12 ounce bottle I would have been just as happy to rate a fine release from Struise.

Aroma / Appearance - A caramelly brown base sits below a musty tan head. The reddish hue traps a mixture of old chocolate, white wine, and malt. The creamy contribution of the bourbon gives some nice depth. The sourness does not stand out much from the other scents.

Flavor / Palate - Creamy vanilla, maple, caramel, and more stick in the thick mouthfeel. The muted bourbon aspect tickles the throat for a second. This has a nice big body that clings to the palate. A very unusual quad would be hard to finish off alone so share it with a few friends.

Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2013. The pour’s murky brown with a small head. The nose is cherry fruit leather. Rich toffee. Bakes apple. Spicy sweet Belgian yeast. Similar flavors. The taste is more baked apple, marzipan. Chocolate. Charred grain. Spicy. Full body, soft carbonation. Tasty.
