COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

This beer is a hazy dark amber color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Small patches of lacing. Aroma of malt, yeast and dark fruit. Full-bodied with flavors of ripe fruit, malt and oak. The finish is syrupy with a banana and oak aftertaste. Decent overall.

Draft at blue monk, buffalo. Copper pour with orange hues. Sweet malt aroma with raisins. Low carbonation. Sweet raisiny flavor, red wine finish. Some booziness. Touch of dried cherry. Nice flavor, flat mouthfeel.

Draught @ The Trappist. Golden amber, hazy pour with white head. Sweet. Light vanilla bourbon notes, mix of dark and red fruits, molasses and caramel. Not the typical bourbon inflection I was expecting; much more refreshing. And boozey.

On tap at The Trappist. Pours amber with a nice beige head and a fruity aroma. There is a sweet fruit and dark molasses flavor that is very tasty. This is a nice version of quad. Very rich.

Tap at Het Oude Schooltje, Oostvleteren - 20/10/12. Clear golden with a thin off white head. Nose comprises caramel, apricot, honey, a little booze, bourbon tones and a touch of mint. Tastes of sweet caramel malts, caramelised sugar, fruit tones, bourbon back note. Very very smooth drinking - ’luxurious’ is the correct palate descriptor! Fullish bodied, no carbonation and the alcohol is very well disguised. Great stuff!

Tap (SBWF2012)
Over-ripe bananas and bourbon in the aroma. The aroma and taste are both super-sweet, so sugary and sticky in the palate. I don’t like over-ripe bananas at the best of times, so this score is being very charitable - this is almost everything I don’t like about beer packed into one beer. Not particularly flawed, just so so so not me.

Draught at SBWF. Cloudy amber, small head. Rich aroma of vanilla, oak and red berries. Sweet and full bodied with well rounded mouthfeel. Rich on caramel, filled with red berries and sprinkled with vanilla. Warming finish. Seemless and rich. Wonderful!
