4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: DEC 21, 2014 Bottle. Pours hazy amber orange with creamy off-white one finger head. Aroma hits you with loads of belgian yeast and esteres. Dried fruits, apricots, dark berries, sweet and caramel malts. Burnt figs. So many oaky layers in this one. Got the red wine dark berries and tannins, oak and vanilla from the barrel as it warms. Has some sour apples too. Taste is a mellow palate of dried fruits. Complex but mild. Bready malts, caramel with dry oaky vanilla finish, slight spicy. Red wine does bring this beer a edge towards the finish that is hard to find in this strong sweet beers. Body is full and really creamy but disappears rather quickly, letting you ready for next sip. It doesn’t hit you in any way, it’s just one long cozy journey for the taste buds. No absence of the alcohol, just a oily mouthfeel. Really well balanced beer and kind of a sessionable quad!

Keg at CBC2012, from some old notes. They cheer and sing as you order it. Dark brown pour, small white head. Rich and boozy nose, bourbon, vanilla and a bit of spice. Slightly thin in the mouth, even for style. Flavour of figs, toasty malt, deep rich boozy bourbon. Slightly one dimension, disappointing

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle at Fermentoren Aarhus. Pours a completely clear, rubyred amber with a small, fluffy, off White head. Aroma has lots of different barrel character at first. Both sweet, cherry-vinous oak and sweet vanilla bourbon stuff. Not overwhelmingly Dark though. Still with some of these Dark, dried fruits, and some malty caramel, and some Belgian yeast, but again a lot of the barrel character, which both points in the sweeter bourbon direction, but it diffinately has some more dry, wooden and red vinous stuff as well. Taste has first of all a lot of malty sweetness, but also some more dry and slightly acidic fruit and barrel notes. Again, besides grapes, cherries comes to mind. Medium full body and med low carb. Very Nice balance, and an exciting beer for sure!

2011 vintage. A beautiful, reddish brown beer with a medium and blond head. The nose is rich and dark fruity, prune, some strawberries and barrel, hint of alcohol. Taste has strong, dark and dried fruits, barrel, dryer than I expected. Medium+ bodied, low carbonation, smooth. The strong Struise’s house flavour. Good.

33 cl. bottle poured in to a Trappist glass. Hazy amber colour with orange hues. Dense, lightly tanned head. Sweet aroma with vanilla, overripe fruits, rich caramel malts, some barrel, dark dried fruits and honey. Some pleasant boozy notes. Taste is sweet. Full body with an oily texture and a soft carbonation. Long lasting finish with sweet fruits, vanilla, booze and spicy notes. Excellent beer from Struise, very complex.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dirty brown color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry fruits with some bourbon notes and some residual sugars is quite complex. Taste is a complex mix of bourbon with light residual candi sugar with some, fruity ester and some dry fruits notes. Body is about average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Nice level of complexity thought a fuller body would have help appreciate this even more.

Very excellent stuff. Floral aroma, plums, raisins. Awesome balance. Light touch of wood in finish. Pours hazy red with decent head and lacing. Light sweetness. Soft carbonation. Wonderful quad from one of the masters. Bottle pour at Churchkey’s anniversary, 2009 vintage.
