This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Rychei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

On tap at CPK, London. Struise tap takeover. It pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a minimal off-white head. Aroma is sweet and boozy with big bourbon notes. Vanilla, tobacco, figs, dark fruits and molasses. Taste is sweet again, quite boozy and bourbon-like, syrupy with vanilla, chocolate, molasses and licorice. Mouthfeel is thick with good carbonation. Overall, tastes like the XXXX Quad on Bourbon.

Bottle shared by Colin. Brown pour with an off white head. Belgian candy aromas. Sweet and malty with interesting wine barrel and gut rock bourbon undercurrents. Kind of wacky with woody low lights and some almost tannin like qualities.

Capped 750 from Bine & Vine. Pours deep orange/copper with a 4 finger creamy beige head. Aroma of medium dark fruits and medium dark malt. Amazing. Maybe a hint of orange. Full bodied. Extremely soft carbonation. Flavor is first bourbon/vanilla, then darkish fruit, then toffee, then a bit more toffee. It’s not bitter, and it is malty/sweet, but somehow it comes out like a non-sweet beer - and then the toffee comes out again. It changes from second to second. Really smooth. Extremely tasty. Just frickin brilliant.

Tap. Pours mostly clear amber with just a trace of thin, fizzy white head. Aroma is floral hops, figs, pears, bread and biscuit malts, light grass and light spice. Flavor is sweet malts forward with great supporting fruit esters; extremely delicious with just the right amount of citrus and floral hops along with a hint of herbs; dry, lightly sweet finish. Medium/full body and low carbonation.
