COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This ale was brewed back in 2008, and in collaboration with brew master Ryohei Sugawa San from Rio Brewing & Co. Our goal was to brew a Belgian dark golden blond quadrupel with an enormous potential of aromas and flavors, and added complexity due to oak barrel aging. Bourbon barels from Kentucky were chosen due to their very special soft roast quality and noble vanilla flavors. Year upon year, different quality controls were executed, and we finally decided to bottle condition this very special ale in May 2012. Another three moths of cold maturing was done at the brewery, so we could be sure about the absolute quality before releasing to our customers.

Draft at blue monk, buffalo. Copper pour with orange hues. Sweet malt aroma with raisins. Low carbonation. Sweet raisiny flavor, red wine finish. Some booziness. Touch of dried cherry. Nice flavor, flat mouthfeel.

2008, on tap for Backcountry Pizza’s 5th anniversary party. Pours a bright, unclear orange color, with a small, beige, creamy, and persistent head. The nose is caramel, vanilla, rye, orange peels, and sweet cherries. The flavor is sweet, with a light bitterness and a warming, boozy finish. Medium to heavy body, a little acidic, and just a little watery. The aroma of this beer is simply fantastic - I could sit and smell it forever - but the mouthfeel is a little weak.

Bottle (750 ml) shared at tasting. Hazy orangey with a small off-white head, ok retention, leaving some lacing. Aroma is super fruity and yeast with a good amount of vanilla and oak but it take a while to open up and let some bourbon and wine flavors out. There’s also of course alcohol (not burning though), caramel and oxidation notes that’s arent ruining the beer and fits the profile to some extent. Taste is not overly sweet but it’s really fruity to the point of being nearly cloying. There’s also alcohol, bourbon more than wine, caramel, mild to moderate spiciness and vanilla. Full body. Moderate carbonation. Fruity finish. A good alcohol warmth. Lingering fruitiness. It’s a bit over the top and too fruity for my liking but it gets interesting when the bourbon and wine notes finally come through. Good.

Pours a dark copper with a white rim on top that leaves some lacing. Nose is of alcohol, caramel and oxidation. A little wood and not a whole lot of bourbon. Taste is moderately sweet and offers some nice figs and maple syrup. Body is medium-full, carbonation moderate and there is a bit of hot alcohol. Overall a good belgian strong but I can think of quite a few I enjoy more than this one.

33cl bottle, served in snifter glass. Poured a murky dark orange with a two finger light brown head. Aromas of raisins, oak, dark fruit, cotton candy, grenadine, caramel, bubblegum, dates, cherries, strawberries, licorice, alcohol. Taste pretty much a continuation of the aromas, sweet like cotton candy in combination with the vinous and bourbon notes. The taste also very much reminds me of drinking a Singapore Sling cocktail. Very complex brew! A full thick, creamy mouthfeel with bourbon in the finish. This...is...so...GOOD! Another masterpiece from De Struise Brouwers. Congratulations heren! Until now nothing I have tasted by them has disappointed me. All top class brews from these maestros. Bravo!

(Rating #10,400) Bottle... Pours dark, hazy and burnt-orange with a mid-sized, creamy, white head. The aroma is a malt and yeast-driven blend of caramel, sourmash whiskey, dates and marmalade. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and Key West carbonation. The flavor features bittersweet bourbon, candied dates, figs, golden raisins and toffee. Finishes bourbony, but quite smooth and silky with a modest amount of lingering, tannic bitterness. Pulls up just shy of being world-class. Bottles generously shared by darkguardian!
