DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Aug 23, 2007 Updated: Jul 13, 2008Bottle. Glowy red amber packed with detritus. Murkily opaque with creamy white collar. Banana-hued esters on the snout, with ginger and a sprinkle of clove. Smells like a big fruity Bavarian. Flavour earthier, with apple peel, smoky malt, caramel, a peppering of spice. Dustily fruity, malty, slightly tart, and finally dry. Misled by the nose. Nothing special. (re-rate, as ’Cuvee Mon Bijou’). As usual with Struise, 70% of the bottle spurted all over the worktop. Good riddance. What was left was undrinkable. Varnish, sickbowl and pondwater.Appalling. Tranquillity (1165), Espoo, Finland Aug 16, 2007 Bottle @ Pikkulintu, Helsinki. Dark honey/mead colour, bright white head. Spicy aroma, not too strong though. A bit disappointing taste, not strong at all. Storm (2685), Amager, Denmark Aug 5, 2007 75 cl. bottle. Golden, amber colour with a fizzy white head. Aroma of vinous, a little malt, and caramel.
Flavour of mild malt, hints of caramel, and with a sweet vinous finish.
Ends lighty bitter and almost no hoppyness. JoeinUccle (902), Brussels, Belgium Jul 31, 2007 33 cL. Thickly hazy amber with lacy, off-white, fast-fading head. Yeasty aroma with some faint notes of sour apple, almonds, spices, metal. Flavor has some tart fruits that melt into mildly bitter hops, with a dry, bitter finish and aftertaste. Spicy hops and lively carbonation. Lots of character and good balance. Enjoyed it. thewolf (5635), Kolding, Denmark Jul 28, 2007 Updated: Jul 29, 2007Bottle, vintage 2004. Bought at DØE Festival 2006. Pours a clear red amber with a big fizzy white head. Aroma is mild, based on caramel, but contains coriander, vanilla and herbs as well. Fizzy mouthfeel. Flavour is mild, sweet and caramelly, but there is a slight tarty finish to it, not lowered by the fizzyness. The spices come to the fore in the aftertaste, letting it dry out slowly, but with a continuing pine-like and spicy taste experience. This is so muchlike a Saison that I’m almost thinking it should be :o) Dedollewaitor (3625), Odense, Denmark Jul 15, 2007 Muddy amber/brown. Caramel malt and a lot of spices, sugar & yeast. Slight sweetness. Medium light thin body. Taste is OK, but expected a bit more. Still enjoyable! diabel (1366), Aarschot, Belgium Jul 6, 2007 Bottle Muddy, amber body. Off-white head. Fresh aroma of caramel, coriander, pepper, ... Lightly bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Not very intense. Quite well balanced, but not too complex. Quite nice.
