3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 popery (1014) - San Francisco, California, USA - JAN 3, 2011
Draft, The Trappist. Mouthfeel is creamy with lots of gentle little bubbles. The beer pours a hazy golden amber with a creamy off-white head. The aroma is quite fruity - apricots, pears, apples, grassy, cherries. There are light notes of funk, caramel and floral hops. A nice yeastiness is in there, too. The taste is lightly sweet with a very dry finish. There’s a touch of funk and sour that is very refreshing. It’s easy to drink and goes well with food.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FlacoAlto (3086) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - DEC 27, 2010
Sampled July 2010
The beer pours with a hazed, amber-red color and is topped by a lightly tanned head. The aroma smells nicely fruited (with notes of berries and even some cherry like notes) and has some spiciness to it that sort of reminds me of oregano. The finish of the nose has a soft touch of pale-biscuit malt character to it.
The beer as it first hits my tongue tastes dry leaning, a bit spicy, malty and softly fruity. My friend things that it reminds him of spaghetti, I don’t quite see that but get what he is getting at. The beer is slightly malty, has some red table grape flavors to it, perhaps some currant like notes as well as other non-descript berry notes. This is a very interesting mix of flavors and is actually quite complex for the strength. This seems like it would pair quite well with food. It has enough body to allow it to work with food, but is still quaffable and light enough; the texture also seems a bit soft and creamy somehow too. I am really quite enjoying this beer & I really like how complex it is.

Pours a thick syrup of a yeasty beer. Pleasant yeasty aromas. Starts sweet, mid-sip spicy and finishes slightly bitter, this reminds me of a Belgian IPA. Satisfying and fuller mouthfeel.

Bottles. This is an absolute classic. As Beejay put it... one could knock these back all day and not get bored. A great amber ale! Lightly fruity and grassy aroma, lovely light crystal sweetness, and a great yeast character to fill things in and tie it all together. Flavor follows, very refreshing, balanced bitterness, I would love to see this beer hopped up!
