Doppelganger (1086), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Jul 21, 2008 Bottle, from cgarvieuk. Thanks Craig! Hazy but attractive copper/orange. Persistant butter colored head, lingering there patiently while I wait for the glass to warm up a bit. The smell of my parents back garden in spring: on one side, rhubarb stalks pushing up through the cool wet soil. On the other side, the compost pile begins to warm in the sun, a year’s worth of coffee grounds, leaves and grass clippings mouldering their way back to soil. Back inside, my mom bakes a pumpkin pie, and cinnamon and nutmeg waft outdoors, subtly perfuming the air... Dry rhubarb fruit flavor, with a big menthol mineral bite. Lingering tart prickly chalk. Messy and unfocused, but full of snap and life. A true farmhouse sort of beer, rustic and unsophisticatedly pleasing. Go on: call it a saison. RomanW70 (280), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Jul 15, 2008 Had at Cambrinus in bruges on 6/21. Pours medium amber with a medium white head. Floral aromas domionate, but additional notes of spice and yeast are detectable. Really like the taste, which has striong, but not dominant, vineous notes. Very well balanced. Very nice beer. Ughsmash (2828), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Jun 22, 2008 2007 bottle thanks to Craig! Poured hazy medium amber with a short, well-retained cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up a distinct Belgian yeast impression showcasing cloves, cinnamon, and floral notes.. medium-skinned and darker fruits gave some influence.. quite inviting. The flavor had fruits that tended toward the darker side.. spicy yeast (white pepper and coriander among others) hit toward the middle.. dried fruits return on the finish.. tasty and well balanced. Medium-bodied or a tad lighter on the palate with a dry, spicy feel to it.. higher carbonation. Very good brew! Marsiblursi (1270), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 20, 2008 (Bottle) Pours grayish brown. The aroma is spicy, floral. fruity and perfume-ish with nutty and yeasty undertones. The flavour is light fruity, spicy, floral and nutty with a dry finish. Bit sourish and yeasty. Medium bodied. FrankJohansen (2555), Sabro, Denmark Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Hazy amber colour with a medium mostly lasting off white head. Rich malty aroma and taste with notes of fruits and spice. Nice semi bitter finish.
