Our brew-master was born and raised in Newport Belgium. In the early days around 1600, a lot of women were accused of witch craft and got burned alive... Early 2010, the city council of Newport asked Urbain to develop a session beer for the two yearly evocation of a Newport witch called Jeanne Panne. Jeanne was as ugly as can be and had copper coloured hair. Elements enough for Urbain to create a rather exciting ale whom we named "Roste Jeanne". The brand "Roste Jeanne" was deposed behind our backs by the city council early 2013. To avoid any legal battles, we stopped brewing the beer. This beer is now brewed in contract by the city council of Nieuwport at the Proefbrouwerij in Lo-christi Belgium.

Interesting beer. Mahogany body with roasted malt. Light body. Some smoke and spices in the flavor.

Draft sample. Poured clear reddish copper color with an average frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate yeast fruit aroma. Medium body with a smooth sticky texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

On tap at Dutch’s, rated from memory. Keg arrived "aged" thanks to the importer. Reddish color, with a good khaki head. Smooth, lighter carbonation, medium to bigger body. Kind of a light tart taste, lightly spicy. Some toasty, earthy, spicy aromas. Not bad.

Draft at Dutch’s. Pours a clear deep amber color with a medium sized creamy beige head. The aroma and flavor have toasted bread, fruity esters, cocoa powder, yeast, caramel some earthy bitterness. The finish is slightly dry and soft. This was a bit disappointing from these guys.

Draft to snifter at Dutch’s. Looks good; a hazy orangish brown with foamy off-white head. Smells of Belgian yeast, malt, and a bit of dark fruit with a bit of earthiness as well. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Okay.

Aroma of malts, red/dark fruits, caramel, yeast, wood, brown sugar, slight chocolate. Flavour is pretty sweet, red fruits, spicy. Body is nice and thick. I really enjoyed drinking this brew.

Nice vigorous carbonation. Dull copper color. Grainy aroma with a hint of fruity yeast character. Flavor is rather hoppy, but not overwhelming at all. Crisp hop finish. Pretty nice stuff.

Bottle @Bierhuyske. Pours amber/brown with nice foam. Little sweet aroma. Taste light sweetness, some caramel. Not much aftertate.
