33cl Bottle from De Molen. Unclear amber orange colour, white head. Aroma is fruity, citrus, yeast, light buttery. Flavour is light sweet, fruity, citrus, grapefruit and oranges, firm bitter hoppiness leading to an earthy dry liquorice finish. Medium to fullbodied. Just a hint of alcohol detected. Good beer and totally different from other BSA’s.

UPDATED: NOV 13, 2009 Bottled. Thanks a lot Carlo and Urbain for this bottle that I got for my 40th birthday. A hazy golden beer with a big lazing orangey head. The aroma has strong notes of spices among them nutmeg, alcohol, fruit - peaches, and some yeast. The flavor is sweet with notes of spices - coriander, nutmeg, and others, malt, caramel, yeast, and fruit, leading to a dry finish.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of Ungstrup. Pours a cloudy deep amber with a solid and creamy off-white head leaving a neat lacework. Intense fruity aroma with lots of esters and some phenols. Medium body, fruit, yeast and an edge of cough syrup - a little caramel also. Rather hoppy finish where the alcohol also becomes rather evident. Not a bad beer at all but not as complex as the best from Struise. 121109

Bottled. Aroma has yeast, wood, grapefruit, some caramel malts. hazy, yellow coloured beer with a medium, whit head and vivid carbonation. The flavor is citric, yeasty, caramel malty and a bit spicy. medium bodied. Well done.

Bottle shared by Eugene. Pours an opaque amber orange body with a white foamy head. Spicy ginger root, light earth and herbal dry hops. 12% really where a mild musky hazy fruit and candy like sweetness with a minimal warming. I liked it or i liked that it was 12%, something like that.

Thanks to fata2683. Amber pour. Weird aroma. Yeast, light hops, some earthy tones. Flavor is subtle but pretty nice. Caramel, wood, earth, yeast and lightly fruit.

From fata2683, thanks Keith. The beer pours with a dark orange-amber color. It gets murkier and muddier progressively with the pours and the end of the bottle turns the body into a gelatinous concoction with with visible specs of yeast poop/stuff (protein, whatever). The head is small with a lightly sticky lacing. Aroma is a bit ginger bread with some dirty hop candy. The hops are muddled with the sweetness of the beer. The hops are green and badly done as far as dry hopping for Belgian brewers goes on these big beers. Its nice to see them try but they don’t do it too well It is green and wet and muddled. I could like the malt and yeasty aspects (ginger bread, sweet biscuit) and some of the hops notes compliment it well (citrus) but in general the hopping on this is a mess. Flavor is more overly hopped and not in a good way. Just throw hops, mix it with lots of thick malt and you get this. Its a good learning experience but I have difficulty believing this is what the brewers wanted as their final product. The upside, the mess of flavors hides any alcohol of the beer.

I’ve had this quite a few times but I was saving myself to rate this particular bottle. Firstly because I can rate it in the comfort of my own home. Secondly because this particular bottle was given to me by my good friend Harrisoni by way of saying sorry for spraying me with Keralensis that had been ejected from his nose. It actually hit some guy we didn’t know on the back too but he didn’t notice. No Rocking Horse for him....

A beautiful burnt amber colour with an excellent off white head leaving lots of lace. The aroma is nothing short of spectacular. As an English man this really hits the spot. Lots of glorious English hops, boozy but still managing to retain poise and finesse, equally brilliant malt base and just a hint of pepper right at the top. My god. The flavour is even better. If I had this in a blind tasting I’d bank a fortune on this being English. I’d certainly never guess this was from a Belgian brewer. But hey, Struise are not your average Belgians. Yes, you can tell there is some strength to it but you would not think it’s as strong as it is. It slips down so easily. The EKG and Vale yeast combination is something most have us have experienced before but, honestly, never has it been done so well. This could have me fence licking drunk without me even noticing. There is something cakey about the malt which balances it out so bloody well it’s untrue. The finish is pure magic. Just a faint lick of sourness then an instant swashbuckling bitter hop kick in the knackers that leaves the booze and malt in its wake. Just when you think it’s all over the peppery hop aftertaste floods in and doesn’t bugger off for some time. Nor do I want it to. I think you have to be English to fully appreciate this. Yet another true masterpiece. I’m honoured to know these guys. Really. Thanks Ian. Apology throughly accepted. It was almost worth it anyway. I’ve certainly never seen anyone squirt red beer out of their nose before.

From Koelschtrinker via trade. Poured a hazy, not quite cloudy amber color with a thin white to off-white head. Flecks of lacing. The aroma is lots of sweet malt over yeast and fruity citrus notes. The flavor is a nice combination of the fruit and the yeast with some pepper and a welcome surge of warming alcohol on the finish. Almost medium bodied. Enjoyable.

33cL bottle. Pours a murky copper color, capped with a moderate sized white head. Aroma of grapefruit, tropical fruit, caramel, alcohol, and pine. Caramel and grapefruit hit the palate first and are then joined by peach and fruity notes. Earthy hops build toward the finish and hop resins cling to the palate for a lengthy finish. Nice beer.
