A Struise beer that Travlr hasn’t had? Yes, please! Thank you secret santa. Pours apricot in color with a trim white head. Smells of sweat, canned peaches, and hops. Sweet in flavor with added notes of malt and Hawaiian Punch. Really enjoyed this.

Sample at semi-S&G tasting (since the music was shut down halfway through). APPEARANCE: clear blond beer, small unstable white head. NOSE: little oxidated, madeira. TASTE: little oxidated, madeira, sweet, white chocolate, peppery, very boozy actually!

Very bitter ale, almost a DIPA, made for Waregem Koerse, with creamy, milk white, sticky, moussy head, very stable; orangey peach blond colour, hazy. Aroma strong flowery, peppery and grassy hops, tonic water, orange peel, bitter honey, apple, peach, whisky; citrussy freshness in onset, rounded, quickly overcome by a very assertive, complex, spicy and floral hop bitterness over a caramelly and slightly nutty malt base, very dry and long, some whisky-like warming alcohol but not astringent and in all very well hidden for a beer this strong. Another great Struise beer.

Bottle @ RBBSG II. Courtesy of BelgBeerGeek. Thanks Vincent! Pours hazy yellow/brown with a small off-white head. The smell is rich malt and tart fruit. The taste is tart fruit, crisp hops with a dry finish. Medium body and mild carbonation.

Bottle at home, must be a few years old. Gusher! It pours hazy golden-amber with a medium off-white head. The nose is earthy, hay, doughy, spice, light candy, pear and apple. The taste is wood, earth, bread, alcohol, candy, citrus peel, sherbet, apple and hay with a dry, warming finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. No real depth and pretty hot. Not one of Struise’s best.

Bottle at home, thanks to Belgbeergeek for the trade, 11/01/14. Hazed orange amber with a good sized off white covering that thins but stays for the show. Nose is light musty fruit stall, candied sugars, bitter orange, caramel, earthy hops. Taste comprises caramel, sugars, bitter dark fruits, hoppy backnotes, earthy, dirt. Medium bodied with bite, fine carbonation, well tempered sugars and lightly musty in the closure. The 12% never really came into play - easy enough drinking affair but lacked a little depth. A few years past its prime perhaps but still a drinkable number.

Bottle shared thanks to Belgbeergeek for the trade. Pours murky brown with a tan head. Aroma of boozy caramel, that strong Belgian beer with a few years on it effect, also a little herbal taking the edge of the heavy sweetness coming out in the flavour. Full bodied with flat carbonation. No idea what it was like fresh, but very nice with some age.

Backlog review, tasted early 2011. Pours hazy, burnt copper with thin head, abundant carbonation apparent. Fruity aroma, honey, citrusy hops in the background. Taste initially sweet, fading to pleasant bitterness with light honey to provide balance, alcohol not very noticeable. Medium body, becomes fairly smooth once the carbonation has a chance to die down. Decent.

330 ml bottle.
Pours a cloudy orange colour with a white head. Aroma of malts, dried apricot and some bread. Flavour of caramel malts, nettles, dried fruits, dough-like yeastiness and grassy bitterness. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Alcohol is well hidden. Finishes sweetish and grassy. Decent.
