4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
UPDATED: FEB 19, 2012 2011 vintage. Black, thick body with a light bubly head. Definitely looks like a classic Belgium quadruple. Smells liek one too; dried sticky fruits with liquorice root, dough and rye bread, even chocolate notes and tabacco. Complex. Taste stars out with a delicate nutty bitterness but quickly becomes warming and sweet rich flavour. Develops in your mouth and burns a bit in the back of the throat. Okay, it’s not a Westvleteren 12 but I don’t think they want or need it to. Really has a character of its own - and lots of it. And I love it. (33cl bottle, 4,50 EUR) (Rating re-indexed)

Had the 2010 vintage out of a bottle with a good friend, tasted after Cuvée Delphine. More fruity than the Delphine, overall very good, very fond of Struise brewed stuff!

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
(11.2oz bottle courtesy of bobertkuekn. 2011 vintage). Pours a murky reddish-brown color with thin tan head. Aroma has dark fruit (dates and figs), caramel and some wood. Taste is semi-sweet with some light bitterness. Caramel, dark fruits and some vanilla come through. Medium bodied with an oily texture. A little rough around the edges, but a good quad.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours muddy brown with a medium head. Light aroma is alcohol and sour malts. Flavor is very soft, mostly sweet malts with some alcohol. Not quite your average barley wine. I like it.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2010 vintage 33cl bottle, picked up for 6 euros, pours murky brackish amber brown with dark tan head. The aroma emits raisins, dates, chocolate covered cherries and some yeasty spices. A bigger pull brings up the expected booziness. The flavor is rich as it should be for the style and I’m really enjoying it. I begins with brown sugar covered raisins and prunes and then it moves toward cherries and earthy dates. By midway an amazing chocolate note rises to the surface and takes this into wonderful places just as you noticed the formidable ABV. Around the edges, joining the bit of booziness are thin rings of yeasty spiciness that liven up the more rich sweet notes. This is bold and rich in all the right places.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared at the QC tasting, pours a clear dark red amber with a very thin head, the aroma has a good amount of brown sugar and a hint of caramel, the flavor was very sweet with a good amount of brown sugar and malt, seemed kind of flat overall though, wished I felt more from this one.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at Capones for Black Friday. Mahogany with no head at all, quite translucent. Fruit (grapes), yeast, alcohol, sweet and partially roasted malts, grain, sugar, figs and prune. Sweet, average carbonation, good body, alcohol and price (pepper was a little too much) on the finish which does not last long.

Draft at Capones in Norristown, PA
Pours a hazy dark chocolate brown color with a one fingerbbeige head that slowly settles into lasting ring. Spotty streaks of lace.
Sweet dark fruit aroma with subtle roasted malt notes. Subtle peppery spice with hints of grape, plum and fig.
Medium bodied with a strong dpice presence up front with pepper and clove followed by some anise/licorice, sweet malt and dark fruit. Lots of vinous grape along with fig, raisin, caramel and toffee. Mediocre, a bit thin and too heavy on the spice. I love Struise and was really excited to try this but it was a huge disappointment. Hopefully the bottles are better.

On tap at Capones. Clear, deep, honey brown with brief froth. Nose is toffee, nutmeg and soft raisin. Medium light with a tingle. Taste is raisin, yeast and caramel with a dry, whiskey finish. Nose such a super sweet quad as many i’ve tried. Hides its alcohol well.
