3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very good black ale with a certain sweetness to it. Somehow it gets old before finishing the first glass, though.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Poured from bottle into pint glass (I know...)
Funky smell. A little fishy...
am starting to compare all Quads to Rochefort 10 or Westleveteren 12 and frankly - these other "hot" quads fall short. Tastes very similar to Gulden Drak, but a quicker, drier finish. You know - Belgian yeast, candi sugar, yadda yadda. Nothing new here.
Apricot, white rasiins, slight fig...fruity is what I’m getting at here.
This one needs some laying down. Will cellar the other bottle and see what we see in a few years.
For now, not an everyday drinker. Like green bananas. Could be perfect given time. Overly carbonated, not as chewy as it could be.
See me after class.

4.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Més fosca del que m’esperava, textura molt cremosa i agradable i amb una espuma excelent. Una quadruple extraordinària, res a envejar a la westvleteren 12 i més fàcil d’aconseguir. Exquisita.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 A: Deep muddy-red-brown body. Frothy khaki head. A healthy amount of lace patches left behind.
S: Dark fruits: raisins, figs, cherries, plums. Oak and vanilla from the bourbon barrels. Somewhat muted. Dose of booze.
T: Better definition of flavors as raisins, figs, and plums pop from a deep caramel base. Again, some booze creeping through.
M: Perhaps a tad undercarbonated given the weight of this beer. All of the malty/boozey goodness leads to a dense experience on the tongue.
O: Very good, and a bit different then the mainstay quads (St. B/Rochefort/Westy/Pannepot). I think some age might smooth some of the rough edges here and turn this into a truly sublime beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Small creamy head and a hazy thick and creamy black body. Nice sweet aroma of brown sugar, alcohol, tobacco, roasted malt. The taste is heavy sweet and lightly bitter. Long warming finish.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
33cl bottle drank from my Darkness tulip...The initial pour of the beer is a very light tan but as it settles a very dark brown with purple highlights displays, gorgeous. A surprising very light tan head rises about five full fingers with really good retention, and fantastic lacing...The aroma is nice, has the normal quad notes of dark fruits, molasses and candied sugar, but his is the sweeter side of most trappist quads, and WAY WAY sweeter than Pannepot. No initial alcohol burn on a new beer that is come from a Pannepot either...The taste carries over the sweetness, and I’m replaying my notes above but this is a SUPER sweet quad, just hanging on the cliff by a fingernail from being too sweet. Tons of prunes on the front with light candied sugar, with a bit of hops on the back. The finish is slightly alcoholic and a little boring...The feel is on the lighter side but decent enough...Super easy to drink because of the sweetness.
Another great beer by De Struise, greatly different from Pannepot and some ways superior. Probably could age well but is fine to drink now. Worth tracking down.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottled. Pours hazy, deep mahogany brown with a medium beige head. Nose of caramel, toasted malt and nuts. Sweet flavour of toasted malt, dark fruits, caramel and licourice notes. Medium to full bodied. Average carbonation. Oily texture. Ends up with alcohol and a little malt bitterness. Very enjoyable.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Clear brown pour, slight ruby tint with straw colored foam. Aroma of vanilla, molasses, cocoa powder, cherries. Taste is quite particular, lots of brown sugar, cocoa, vanilla good quad flavors with a slight wild twist, the yeast tastes very much like westvleteren 12. Palate is very well done, heavily bodied, smooth, silky carbonation with a nice warming alcohol presence. Quite reminiscent of westvleteren according to me.
