COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Saint Amatus, also called St. Aimé, was a Benedictine monk.

He took the defense of the lesser man who was exploited by the Merovingian king Thierry III.

In Belgium, Oostvleteren is the only parish to patron St Amatus as saint.

Struise started brewing at Deca in Vleteren early 2006, we ankered ourselves by starting the development of our own micro brewery in Oostvleteren during 2009. With this adventure being on the rails, we thought the making of Saint Amatus 12 was as evident as can be.

The terrific artwork was brought by our narcissistic artist Carlo Grootaert.

Saint Amatus has aged on Woodford Reserve barrels from Labrot & Graham, Kentucky USA. Some batches were instead aged on Pappy Van Winkle whiskey barrels, both varieties are valid for this entry.

Bottle at Molenhof. 2013 bottle. Dark mahogany brown coloured pour with a thin fading cream coloured head. Aroma is a nice mix of cakey, Christmas cake, rum and raisin booze, fig and booze soaked dried fruits. Flavour is lovely rounded Malts, nutty, booze, rum, vanilla, cakey, hint of wood. Palate is velvety, semi sweet. Full bodied, highish carbonation. Really good quad.

Color coca-cola. Un dedo de espuma beige. Dura poco. Compleja. El postgusto es sensacional. Pide más. Un deleite.

Bottle. 2011 brought back from Brugges. A: Mahogany body with a thin creme color head. Lacing. N: Raisin, prune, toffee, caramel, oak, touch of vanilla. Cola, touch of red licorice and cherry/brandy profile. T: Good sweetness, light bitterness. M: Medium body, touch oily, no alcohol presence, foamy carbonation. O: Tasty Belgian Dark. Barrel notes are integrated nicely and the underlying beer shines through.

Splendida.

Well I do not know if it is necessary to describe this one to the full. Lovely nice ale for ale lovers. Black body with a fine lasting head. Powerful aroma and flavor with yeast, dried fruits, oak, toffee and some spices. Full body with a smooth carbonation. Complex, powerful and yet easy to drink. What more can you ask for? Recommendable.

(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Apr 17 2015) Pours murky dark brown with a small fine off white head. Brown sugar, toffee, yeasty, grape juice, prunes, some dark berries and spices. Touch of banana ester. Palate is initially very sweet caramel, grape juice, banana, a little spice. Finish is drier but not truly dry. Spicy yeast persists in the aftertaste. Medium body with fairly soft carb. Nice enough quad without anything that really makes it jump head and shoulders above the rest. Didn’t really get any bourbon barrel quality from it. Still a very solid beer.
