COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The "Surprise Ales" came to life at our brewery shop in Bruges. Generally one offs, very limited, nice style experiments, loved by our fans and public, but without a brand name. This Belgian strong ale contains a massive amount of wheat, bourbon barrel aged, unblended, unfiltered, unpasteurized and solely bottle conditioned for the SC² club. Numbered from 1 to 259 on cork. This Surprise Ale is a blend of half a barrel of O.N.E and filled up with T.W.O (= pimped 9% ABV Struise Witte + bourbon barrel ageing)

Medium, cream head, fast gone over dark chestnut coloured beer. Bourbon jumping out of the glass; (too) sweet liqueurish. Again sweet, Bourbon, but also jenever - if with vanilla and fresh oak. Finish has some wry-bitterish flavour, walnutpeel-like. Very oily slick, fiery alcoholburn. One coming on strong - maybe a tad too...

Brown black colour, off-white head. Aroma of caramel, bourbon, vanilla, bit sugary dark fruits. Sweet malty flavour, caramel. Quite alcoholic finish, light bitter hops, yeast, sweet dark fruits, reminding of neuzekes, vanilla.
(from 75cL bottle @ RBBWG III, Gent 2014. Thanks for sharing, Beerlover_Ben!)

Had this with my friend sebletitje a long while ago. Pours murky dark brown with smooth dark tan head. The aroma is full with a bit of dark roasted malts quickly rolling into candi sugar, brown sugar, black licorice, plums, dates and a touch of chocolate. The taste begins with brown sugar, dates and plums and then it runs into candi sugar and some dark roasted maltiness and a touch of chocolate. Into the finish the hops come to the surface and linger with noble hop like bitter floral and spicy hoppiness. This has pleasing bold flavors that mingle with a bit of harmony where I get only faint murmurs of barrel notes. Yummy.

Thanks beerlover_ben @ RBBWG 2014! Pours very dark brown with orange highlights and a small ran head. The smell is caramel, some fruit and alcohol heat. Very sweet with caramel, rich fruit, alcohol ending crisp and a bit dry. Medium body and light carbonation.

18/I/14 - 75cl bottle @ RBBWG III, my place - BB: 28/III/18 (2014-98) Thanks to Beerlover_Ben for sharing the bottle!

Clear dark red to brown beer, small fizzy head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of cuberdons (I recently had this in a few other Struise beers as well, new yeast strain or something?), alcohol, sugary, bit fruity. MF: ok carbon, full body. Taste: little sweet, caramel, some yeast, chlorine, bitter touch. Aftertaste: hoppy, some mocha, yeast, very bready, vanilla, bitter ending. Nice solid beer, but no wow-effect on this one. Don’t know the number of the bottle, as the cork was not set aside by the one who opened the bottle.

75 cl. bottle sampled @ RBBWG 2014. Courtesy of & thx! to Beerlover_Ben. Reddish dark brown, only brief beige head. Nose is very sweet, caramel, sugar & bourbon goo, vanilla, milk chocolate, sweet & lovely. Warming, slightly boozy taste, lots of vanilla, caramel, toffee, biscuit, lots & lots of bourbon goodness, caramel, brown sugar. Close to no carbonation. Bit straightforward but still a very lovely bourbon & caramel malts, vanilla etc. treat.
