Aroma is het minst ontwikkeld, harsachtige grastonen, maar dan komt de volle moutsmaak in een perfecte zoet-bitter balans.

Bottle at home, from Bitter Virtue, 11/05/13. Hazed dark amber with a mahoosive frothy beige head. Nose carries metallic and mineral notes, bitter orange, light hops, caramel. Taste is caramel forward, malt, sugars, light tropical fruit notes, bitter grapefruit, orange. Medium bodied with fine carbonation, light bitterness in the finish. Drinkable stuff, caramel/malt forward IPA - don’t be expecting a hop bomb you will be disappointed!

33cl bottle. Pours a hazy light copper color with a large pillowy off white head. Aroma of light spice, yeast, bready malts, and citrus. Belgian yeast is definitely present. Tastes of bready malts, spices, Belgian yeast, green apple, and citrus.

330ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. Slightly hazy amber color with a huge rocky and super steady off white head. Clean light floral nose, with some spicy hops, bread and damp cloth. Sweet juicy malt, marmalade, some fruit, medium bitterness with a nice fruity hop flavor. Medium bodied, over carbonated but overall enjoyable.

33cl bottles - The fresh blue-and-yellow Swedish flag colours and the IPA-label make you expect a refreshing beer that Struise seems not interested in delivering and with their earthy yeast, added sugars and heavy malt base not even disposed to ever produce. Nevertheless, this is a tasty crossover once you forget about the treacherous IPA misnomer. It does contain a fair and qualitatively high amount of herbal and apparently traditional UK pale ale hops (East Kent Golding?), but these are set off against all the usual De Struise artillery: fermented through-and-through, with a hard-working yeast providing a medium-full, near-sticky mouthfeel, ripe fruits and complex aromas of citrus zest. If it has to be an IPA, then a UK style (cf. Samuel Smith) one full of subtle chtonic flavours, not tonic refresheners.

Amber coloured and hazy. Off-white head, medium duration. Aroma is faint hoppy, a bit sharp but ok. Flavor starts light sweet, faint caramel, then heavy bitter. Dry texture.
