chris_o (4409), London, Greater London, England Jun 9, 2008 750ml bottle at London tasting, May 2008. BBE 12 December 2012. Many thanks to Mes for this one. Poured a rather murky orange colour but I think I got the last sample so I’ll forgive it that. Massive aroma - estery fruit, tangy hops, subtle spices, some vinous woody touches and even a suggestion of volatile Airfix glue. Not too much vanilla, which is fine by me as I often find oak aged beers have just too much vanilla for my taste. Taste is pretty much like the aroma - bags of sharp fruit. Robust body with a pleasant sweet (but not too sweet) and sour (but not too sour) mouthfeel. Oak aging frequently seems to me a bit of a gimmick, too often failing to add anything worthwhile to the underlying beer, but that is not the case here. The woody element combines with the fruity character together seamlessly. A beautifully crafted beer in very respect.
Rciesla (813), Brick City, New Jersey, USA Oct 6, 2008 Belgian Beer Festival on draft. Pours a cloudy orange body with a 2 finger head. Yeasty, woody, citrus fruit with etoh to punch. A dam good beer. Doppelganger (1197), Oxford, Oxfordshire, England Oct 4, 2008 Bottle with Craig, Stella, Fin, Loz and Traci, at the "What’s This Label Supposed To Be Anyway?" tasting. Thanks Craig for bring this one all the way from The Struise Farm! (And thanks Stella for sharing as I understand Urbain sent this bottle for you.)
Bright gold pour, nice cream white layer of foam. Warm biscuit, floral/daisy aroma, birch wood. Clean light grainy malt, a bit of husky lager malt. Dry coconut husk, a nice subtle buttery finish. This feels like a much more finished expression of Tsjeeses. Nice! fonefan (4850), Ulfborg, Denmark Oct 1, 2008 Bottle 75cl. @ the Horse school WSF-08 afterparty in Opstal. [ My Belgium Beer # 1000 ]. Light unclear medium amber orange color with a average to large, frothy, good lancing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, caramel, moderate hoppy, moderate to heavy yeasty, ripe fruit, alcohol notes, woody. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. ;o)) (240508) miketd (372), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Sep 29, 2008 Had the pleasure to share two bottles. Pour is a hazy gold with a big white head. Aroma is fruit, yeast and oak. I remember the regular version smelling better. Flavor was of a good tripel...fruity sweet, lively carbonation with dry finish. A little alcohol warmth. Full bodied and easy to drink. This isn’t my favorite style, so it was better than expected. Fin (2342), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Sep 28, 2008 Tasting with Casey, Traci, Craig, Stella and Loz 27-09-08 this bottle brought along by Craig Pours mid amber with a wonderful clarity and a lovely white lacy head. light and spicy nose with good yeasty notes. Bit tingly on the tongue and also tart, some light vanilla and then there is also a nice lemony citrus push, lovely.
