3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011 vintage. It pours hazy amber with a thick off-white head. The nose is wood, spice, candied orange, caramel, panettone, maple syrup and a touch of jam. The taste is jam, berry, alcohol, oak, earth, spice, fresh orange juice, tangy tangerine, caramel and light astringency with a warming, dry citric finish. Full body, fine carbonation and sticky mouth-feel. Flavoursome, but pretty boozy. My favourite out of Tsjeeses range.

UPDATED: JAN 25, 2013 Interesting color: kind of red/orange/brown/yellow, nice white/reddish head. The taste is also very interesting: it is very very balanced. It doesnít have the amount of bitterness and carbonation you would expect in this style, which I really like. Combine this with the full bodied, yet not overpowering, sweetness, and you have a very great beer!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2012-12-17. Hazy dark amber body, small beige head. Aroma of sweet malt, modest alcohol, light wood tannin accents. Flavour is sweet, fairly alcoholic, mild bitterness in the finish, relatively simple. Average plus bodied palate. My notes are a bit light, which I guess reflects my impression, not as much going on as I would have hoped in such a big beer. 2011 Vintage Bottle shared by HogTownHarry

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
33 cl. bottle @ 18th Christmasbeer festival in Essen. Prob. Liked Oak most then Bourbon followed by this but still not the biggest fan of these, this is an improvement of sort over the base beer. Dark fox amber with a white head. Smell is sweet booze, marmalade, toffee, candy sugar, malty, booze, herbs & spices. Taste is sweet bitter herbs, candy sugar, marmalade, booze, herbal, spices, dark fruits, plums, malts, toffee,Ö sticky body. Agreeable, no idea why these are listed as saisonís now. The RB way is mysterious.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle (2011). Clear orange-amber body with a large beige head. Good lacing. Aroma/taste: relatively subtle flavours sweet, herbal, spices, woody and warming with a toasty bitter finish. Although the beer is spiced, I canít discern the type of spices used. Medium bodied with low to moderate carbonation.

Dark orange body with an off white head. Excellent yeasty and spicy aroma with caramel, grapes, orange, honey, hints of brandy. Full, warming alcoholic body with ideal carbonation. Really great flavour with caramel, grapes, licorice, honey, and various fruits and spices.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Etre Gourmet web shop. Pours a deep coppery-orange body with a big, creamy off-white head. Lookiní good. Nose is fruity saison yeast tones, wood, light candi sugar and hints of alcohol and something caramelly that could very well be port wine. Taste is sweet caramel, candi sugars, mellow saison yeast, wood, grassy herbs and hints of port wine and straw. Full body, medium carbonation. The port barrel seems to fit Tsjeeses much better than the bourbon aged version, and this is really a pleasant, sweet saison of the bigger kind. Perfect for a Christmas treat. :-)

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33cl Bottle from ABS Drinks Winksele, 2011 vintage. Clear dark amber colour, off-white head. Aroma of some oak, light vinous, sweet, light malty. Flavour is medium sweet, malty, light fruity, quite bitter, alcoholic, slightest touch of oak, light spicy. Medium-bodied, overcarbonated, no real sign of barrel-ageing. Seriously underwhelming beer. Saison, really?

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Medium sized, pretty vast and fluffy, slowly disappearing, vanilla colored foamy head on top of an almost clear dark orange to amber colored beer.
Smell is more crispy and sharper than the other Tsjeesesí Iíve had: roosvice, grains, syrup, sweets, peach, apricot, some wood, creamy malts.
Taste spices, alcohol, alcoholic grains, yeast, syrup, creamy, some malts, hint of wood, sweets, light bitter, some creamy alcoholic peach, hay.
Aftertaste is malty with some alcohol, spices, bitterness and wood all are close to an irritating bitterness.
Low carbo, soft creamy foamy mouthfeel, medium to lightly fuller but still a bit thin body and a creamy sticky texture.
This one is even less to no taste of barrel aging. I wasnít a fan of Struiseís Tsjeeses (itís not bad) but this Barrel aged versions donít add anything. At least not for me!
