3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
2011 vintage. Poured a murky amber with a thick, frothy off white head. Aroma of sweet malt and spice. Medium body, sweet malt flavour with caramel and dried fruit, just a slight hint of the port in the aftertaste.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Another great Tsjeeses experiment, this time matured on port wine barrels. Coarse but stable, yellowish white head, warm orangey blonde colour with pinkish hue (probably the red port wine speaking), initially clear but hazy with minute yeast bits floating around after adding the deposit. Complexely perfumed, strong and very inviting aroma of syrup-conserved peaches, cloves, pineapple, meat broth, whisky, wodka, old port wine, moist wood, vanilla, gingerbread, black pepper, candi syrup, apricot, pink grapefruit, orange peel. Apricot- and orange-like onset, very vividly fruity, after which you are sucked into a complex ’parcours’ of caramelly and honeyish, profound malts, a soft and full mouthfeel, spicy ginger, pepper and cloves hints and eventually a leafy and peppery hop bitterness, long and dry, accompanied by a pleasantly and elegantly warming port-like alcohol effect. This is not a tripel anymore, this is a full-fledged barley wine, and a very good one at that. One of Struise’s great masterpieces.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
330ml bottle served in a tulip glass.
2011 Vintage bottle.
A: Pours a deep and hazy amber color with many particles floating around. Forms a big nice creamy beige head. Great retention and lots of lingering lacings left in the glass
S: Sweet, fruity and spicy. Licorice. A bit peppery. Grapes and plums. Sweet grains and wood. Alcohol
T: Sweet upfront. Notes of dark fruits, mainly grapes and plums. Belgian style earthy and bready yeasts. Oak. Strong notes of malts, mainly caramel malts. In overall, a sweet beer with a very light bitter end
M: Heavy, creamy and molasses body. Medium carbonation. Sweet malty aftertaste
O: Delicious beer. Quite drinkable despite the high ABV. Not as good as the Bourbon Barel Aged Edition but still a Struise :)

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sweet nose, definitely. Alcohol, an enormous liquorice load, sweet; BIt fo caramel(syrup), but a lightly bitter spiciness gives a good counterweight. (Ripe) banana; Feels rather well-carbonated; slick and sticky, medium bodied at least.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Brownish red pour with a foxy carbonation but little head. Aims of raisins, molasses, brown sugar. Taste is some oak, red stored fruits, caramelised sugars. Very nice and quite an improved version of the original. 2012 vintage.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle 2013, bottled 07/2014. A reddish brown beer with a big and beige head. The nose is strongly fruitful, dark and dried fruits, also fresher fruits, raisins, dates, perries, some spicyness and chocolate. Complex and smooth aroma. Taste is fruitful, prunes, raisins, also hint of alcohol that is not bothering. Some dry spices in the end. Medium bodied, strong carbonation that is decreasing after a whirl, smooth. Better than normal Tsjeeses or Reserva Bourbon Barrel Aged. Good beer, complex, balanced and smooth.

4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Beautiful pour. Nice head. Definitely tastes like some of the local Burbon barrel aged stuff. Nothing to die for but a good drink regardless.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle, 2011 vintage. Dark orange, hazy, some suspended particles but not in an unattractive way, sparkling, small foamy white head. Aroma is strawberries and cream, light rhubarb, background plastic. Body is medium, quite foamy. Taste is sweet breathy caramel. Layers upon layers of musty sweetness that coat the mouth and get on your breath. Tangy, alcoholic spice finish. Pretty good!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. 2013 vintage. Hazy amber-red with a large and compact off-white head. The aroma is malty with toasted and breadish characteristics, some caramel and toffee, vinous port notes, and spices. The flavour has notes of sweet malts, peach syrup, tannin-ish port flavors, clove, cinnamon, honey, cherries of a fairly tart variety, plums. Harmonious, elegant, delicious. I eagerly await flipping the tops of my older vintages at Christmas time.
