Cloudy brown - amber beer, big pale cream coloured head. Palate starts soft but quickly turns crispy. Mild minerals. Creamy malt. Sweet spices. Holding it together is a mild red wine fruitiness. Creamy malt is the dominant flavour here, but overall a rich and tasty beer.

Bottle at home in London. Many thanks to Ian for trading me this one (although he did get away with a Heady Topper from me!). Vintage 2011. A bit of a gusher, this one. Thankfully I didn’t lose any but it did start oozing out as soon as the cap was off. It pours cloudy orange-brown with a large, tight frothy cream head that really hangs about. Lights of Belgian yeast in the nose, some caramel, stewed apples, touches of bread and tangy fruits. When you taste the beer, the flavors come at like they were shot from a cannon. The first impact is sweet toffee, followed by alcohol and lots of overripe fruits. Lots of dates, golden raisins, sugary bread, hints of maple. Full bodied with average to lively carbonation and velvety texture. Finishes quite warming with definite alcohol presence, sticky sugars, toasted bread, Belgian yeast, slight bubblegum, melon, faint orange rind, fruit cake, overripe fruits, caramel. Mild dried fruits and bitter citrus rind in the aftertaste. Solid beer. Quite complex, though you definitely know you are drinking a 10% beer.
