3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 daleharshman (664) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 23, 2010
11.2 ounce bottle (2009 vintage) purchased almost a year ago at Holiday Wine Cellar ($7.19). Pours a brownish orange with a finger of off-white head. It’s very hazy with a lot of floaties partially suspended in the lower half of the glass. Aroma is on the weaker side but includes bready malts, caramel, yeast, and some light spice and fruit. Fortunately the flavor is far more pronounced than the aroma with strong holiday spice notes, tangy and lightly sweet fruit, yeast, and a big malt presence. The finish is lightly dry and the high alcohol is very well hidden. A Christmas trippel, indeed. (443, 429)
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 CLevar (284) - Minnesota, USA - NOV 18, 2010
Bottle to snifter. Pours a slightly hazy light orange/copper . Decent white head, fades quickly, really sticky lacing. Aroma is full of nice yeast tones, floral, lemongrass, some sweet bready malts. Spice shows itself a bit on the first sip. Some nice malt tones, backed by some residual bitterness. No overt alcohol taste, even at >10%, just a general warming. Nice palate. Finishes overly sweet for me however. Might have to get a couple to save for next year.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Rune (4671) - Tromsø, NORWAY - NOV 16, 2010
200ml, draught at Mikkeller Bar. Hazy, orange body – small layer. The aroma can be described as a blend of fresh and dried fruits. Partly sappy oranges and apricot in flavour, reminiscence of stewed fruits. Mostly hidden alcohol. In danger of being a bit too sweet (Copenhagen, 05.11.2010).
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 StefanSD (1542) - Lakeside, California, USA - NOV 15, 2010
11oz bottle from bev4less. Pours a murky copper color with a small white head that has fair retention. The aroma is nutty & spicy with toffee, malts, nutmeg, allspice and caramel. The flavor is malts forward with toffee malts, allspice, sherry, almonds and pecans. The palate is full and smooth with lively carbonation. The finish is long with lingering spices and some wheat. Overall: This brew really hit the spot, perhaps its jst the right beer at the right time, but I thought this was an outstanding winter warmer.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 ClubGonzo (1736) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 15, 2010
Tap @ Mikkeller Bar, Copenhagen. Hazy orange, medium white head. Aroma is yeasty tones and pale malts. Very fresh. Taste is molasses, floral tones, yeast, pale malts and hints of cardamom. Seems as round as the Reserva version, and despite a slight drop in complexity Tsjeeses makes up for it by being (somehow) also a bit fresher on the palate than its BA cousin. A nice, original and deceptively easy-going Xmas triple from Struise. Gotta love those guys.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Barrelbelly (317) - BELGIUM - NOV 12, 2010
Nice triple with complex taste. Some hints of coriander and some other herbs. Despite the spices, still a subtle hop aftertaste.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 madvike (1298) - Middleton, Wisconsin, USA - NOV 10, 2010
2009 Bottle - Always been curious about this one, but the $7.99 price tag was off-putting. Getting it in the bargain bin at Zipp’s? Yeah, I’ll take a chance on that. Pours light hazy caramel. A bit skunky smell, with light caramel, honey, bread dough, herbs, and light spicing. A touch of heat. Caramel and honey taste with some rich maltiness. A bit of white grape and plum, raisin. A touch of heat, but it’s pretty smooth and integrated. A slight hoppy snap on the end that transitions into a little grassy bitter finish. Surprised I liked this so much, since tripels and Christmas beers aren’t exactly my wheelhouse.
