3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33 cl. bottle, 2010 vintage, poured in to a Trappist glass. Hazy, amber colour with golden hues. Thin, white head. Some sediments in the glass, probably due to age (B.B. 2015) A good "glow" in this beer. Sweet aroma with dark, dried fruits, spices, candid sugar, rich caramel malts, some liquorice, yeasts and oranges. Taste is sweet. Full body with a creamy texture and a soft carbonation. Finishes slightly dry with rich malts and spices. Lovely winter warmer from Struise, not as mind blowing complex as some of their other beers. However, still a nice treat.

Bottle, courtesy of dresden (thanks Steve!), shared with Brian. Hazy golden amber, foamy white head. Caramelized banana, cooked peaches, spices. Sweet but not cloying, and not over the top with spices. Very tasty.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Moderate aromas of cookie and nutty for the malt, herbs and orange for the hops, dough for the yeast, and notes of raisin, plum, wood, brown sugar, nutmeg and alcohol in the background. Head is large, frothy, beige with darker streaks, with excellent lacing and good legs and is mostly lasting. Color is muddy medium brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily acidic, then the long finish is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a lively carbonation and a sticky finish. Complex in aroma, well balanced in flavor with a nice warming quality. This Belgian Strong Ale is a good wintertime choice.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
2013 edition with a best before date of 31/12/2018. Blew up on me when opened and went all over the place. What was left from it was cloudy amber with lots of sediments floating around. Foamy light-brown head, lasting long enough and with thick soapy lacing. Fruity aromas with apples, mild peaches, caramel, yeast and the sugar. Not as sweet for the taste, but the apples and caramel are present. Some decent smooth bitterness and grass flavours in the finish. Well-brewed, but not something I would have again (not my style).

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Originally a Christmas ale, matured on stone fruits. Peach blonde, misty blonde beer under a creamy, off-white head. Strong and inviting aroma of peach, orange, honey, white pepper, sourish wheat, melon, dried apricot, white wine; very fruity onset built on a deep bready and caramelly malt sweetishness, some drying woody hints, complex, with a deeply warming aftertaste of aromatic hops, malt, fruit and warming, brandy-like alcohol. Jesus, what a beer... is what one of the Struise brewers allegedly called when this was tasted the very first time. Not sure if this should be classified as a tripel, but surely it ought to be classified as a world-class Belgian strong.
