Draft at CBC 2012, I never thought this would make it onto Ratebeer, but as it now has, notes will be added :-) Pours brown with a medium off white head. Aroma of malt, dark fruits, caramel, Bourbon, wood and toffee. Flavor is moderate heavy sweet and moderate bitter. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration. It’s an unclear, orangey brown beer topped by a dense, finger-thick, beige head leaving some lacings. The aroma is on the sweetish side, with dried fruits, some dark sugar and a light caramel and roasted malts scent. It’s full-bodied, nicely carbonated and sweet, a tad warm too, with flavors of caramel, dried fruits, a touch of oxidation and a faint spiced hint. Some bitterness shows up towards the end. Although a bit on the warm side, it’s a quite lovely beer. 120511

Draught @ [ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012 ] @ Spartas Lokaler, Faelledparken in Osterbro, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Unclear - hazy medium brown amber colour with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, caramel, riped fruit, moderate yeasty, dried fruit, date, wood. Flavour is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20120511]

UPDATED: APR 9, 2013 Thx to Sebletitje + Carlo & Urbain /// draft sample @ ’t Schooltje // Update: I am pretty sure now that this beer is indeed Westy 12 aged on Bourbon Barrels ( which may be PVW barrels) as rumoured previously //Which make the low ratings on here a bit funny to me but than again I also rated this quite a bit lower than Westy 12 // colour is a reddish furniture brown with a smallish tanned head // smells of sweet bourbon blended with liquorish, spices, caramel & toffee // taste is bitter winter spices, liquorish, dash herbal, dark fruits, candy sugar, raisins, some toffee & caramel, Belgian yeast, very Belgian standard style, unsurprising in a way but haven’t really seen Struise doing this, wood, dash bourbon // body is easy, touch lighter, bit dominated by yeast // if I am not mistaken this beer aligns itself with the silly rumours that Urbain was BA a couple of creates of old Westy’s that he had or something to that akin // this is quite good water, will take a bath in it now

Draft @ ’t Schooltje, thanks Carlo. What Westy 12 should have always been or simply Westy 12 aged in KB? Struise finally gives me a reason to believe and to undertake a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Scopey (6713) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUN 12, 2012
Tap at CBC, May 2012. It pours deep brown, with a decent off-white head. The nose is wood, leather, ginger snaps, jam and poached pear. The taste is caramel, wood, leather, candyfloss, earth, alcohol warmth, jammy fruit, pear and melon, with a somewhat sweet finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. A bit odd. Balance not quite there.

Tap @ CBC. Barrel-aged, apparently. Deep re in color with a massive off-white head. The nose is hot honey, big jammy cherry malts. Chewy, deep wood and light coffee. The taste is chewy, hot liqueur, vanilla, hints of lemon and acid. some grappa and white grape leaf. Strong bourbon and wood on the finish. Strong, but tolerable. The body’s full and soft. Very nice quad!
