3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Draft on tap at Jake Melnickís (Chicago, IL). A pricey little find.. I did a double take on BeerMenus before I went over for a couple other things. Pours a well hazed dulled golden hue, a darker body is a bit dulled, gentle yellow golden hues and glow trickle out to the edges and bottom. Cakey whitish head atop stays as a frothy decent layer atop, sits well and laces ok. Aromas show firmer tart and sour elements, lactic life meets lemon rind, citric acidity and yogurt. Touches of dry straw, crab apple, gentle bready dough and cereal elements. A touch spicy as more lactic play really takes over as it settles down. Initial is lighter end of the fold preaching a rich lemony sourness, lactic acidity and citric acid components combine for a nice sour zing off the bat. Some gentle fruit elements compliment, crab apple, tart pear and gentle melon. Firmer yogurty presence, natural and tart works in with some straw, grainy cereal malts. The sour element is quite vibrant, a bit more funky, dry, and lingering sour slickness really sticks to my palate. A bit juicy, the flaked wheat and bready body isnít completely covered, but a vibrant sourness, dryness really sticks and finishes this off. Impressive stuff, quite tasty. At that price though.. Iíd hope it would be. Nice.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
2010 bottle from De Struise shop in Brugge. Gusher! It pours hazy golden with a quickly diminishing white head. The nose is wood, earth, barnyard, yeasty and lemon sherbet. The taste is crisp, tart, white grape skin, gooseberry, lactic, whitecurrant, granny smith apple, pineapple and sherbet with a prickly, tart finish. Light body and fine, fizzy carbonation. Tart, fruity and damn drinkable. A great 3% sour.

On tap in Cincinnati, OH
Struise is synonymous with excellent beer and this sour is no exception. Much in the spirit of Aardmonk it leaves you wanting more. At $3.00 for a three ounce sample you couldnít ask for a better chance to try a world class beer. If it ever happens to hit distribution I might just have to split a bottle with somebody who has yet to tick it.
Aroma / Appearance - A cloudy lemon yellow base is the color of dense lemonade. Almost like a gueuze it sits lightly in the glass. Light vinegar and lactic acid sour the air but with a delicate texture that is more sessionable than most.
Flavor / Palate - Vinegar and lemon peels provide the sour foundation for a pleasant release. Crisp with a biting sourness that is not too acidic it hangs on the throat. This reminds me of sitting in a bar in Belgium drinking sessionable sours. A comparable experience would be Cantillonís Bio Gueuze if you can find it somewhere.
