On tap. Best-by on the key keg reads 8/12/13. Hazy dark red color, very dark for a tripel. Thin khaki head. Leaves very nice lace. Good looking beer. Kind of an oaky, sour taste is the first thing I notice; light hint of alcohol warmth. Rye grains, spice, dark fruit, light banana. Caramel, rye malt. Complex flavor. Hints of oxidization in the nose but none of it in the flavor. Bigger body. Smooth, kind of crisp lighter carbonation, more dry finish. Nice, complex, sour rye tripel. Not sure if it’s supposed to be sour but it’s good anyway, not too sour. Very different from any tripel I’ve ever had, but a tasty, enjoyable brew.

Bottle, 07/21/2013. Pours dark mahogany, nearly opaque, thin light cream head, nice retention, thick soapy lacing. Aroma is dried fruit, light cherry with spices, vanilla, bready toffee. Taste is mildly fruity, licorice, dark bread, hint of wood, spicy rye finish. Medium heavy body, slick. Nothing that really wows me here, but decent.

Glass at Lion’s Pride on 7/2/13. Clear reddish copper color with a thick tan head. Aroma of malt, caramel and some tartness along with bready and spicy rye. Malty and caramelly flavor with Belgian yeast esters and dark fruit before a bready finish. Tasty!

Had this at the De Struise Tap Takeover at Churchkey. Poured a slightly dark amber color with a small white head. Aroma had notes of the rye, light spice, yeast character. Had it side by side with the Bourbon Barrel Aged version, and this certainly was more sharp than the other one was.

On tap at CBC2012. Beer in the glass brownish, turbid, small head. Mild-fruity aroma. Starts nicely fruity-berry with a hint of cherries. Modest yeasty, not too dry. Finish malty-dry, modest alcoholic.

Sampled @ Haand 2013. Unclear, dark golden body with a tan head. Strong and pleasant aroma of dry fruit, malt and alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, dry fruit, Belgium yeast, balanced bitterness and warming alcohol. Full body and good aftertaste. Quite heavy but so balanced that it becomes dangerous easy to drink. At least at the stage where I sampled this at Haand festival.
