Short-lived yellow head, over hazy orange-brown beer. Alcoholic nose with a sherry-like aroma; vegetable (celery) and fruity (banana) nose, hints of honey. Bitterish, sweet and alcoholic determining the taste. Again banana (very ripe), preserved orange. Madeirisation is there already, blending with the fruity flavours in the beer. Bit sharpish MF, huge alcoholwarming, full bodied and oily; long-lasting flavours. Quite good performance here; served blind, I’d call it a Flemish Barley wine.

75cl, as XXXX Quadruple, new exclusive brew Anno 2012, from De Hopduvel Gent, complex brew, malty/spicy and slightly floral/sweet, not too heavy, balanced, hazy, good head, good brew, yet expensive!

Tap (SBWF2012)
Bananas and alcohol in the aroma. More banana in the taste, some slightly yeasty breadiness. More balanced than the XXX (rogge), but I think it’s trying to be less interesting so that’s not a huge surprise. Apart, of course, from the alcohol aspects, which are over the top. Banana nice, but vodka not desirable.

Draught at SBWF. Hazy pale copper colour, small head. Sake-like grainy licorice fills the nose. Dryish with full body. Mildly roasty with some ripe fruits, rich flavours of ouzo and sake. Elegant finish with some peppered bubblegums.

Draft at BBF. Aromas and taste of honey, prunes, medicine, flowers, yeasty bread, and citrus. Finshed kind of weird for me, didnt take many notes but I remember this wasnt that impressive.

Draught@SBWF2012. Deep, slightly hazy amber colour, small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, alcohol, some mild liquorice and hops. Flavour is quite similar. Like a big brother to xxx, but the flavour in this one is more balanced. Some bitter floral notes in the aftertaste.

Tap @ Borefts 2012. Amber color, soft citrus aroma. Soft fruit flavor. Yeasty. Malty sweet. Slightly medecinal. Almost sugary finish.

Hazy orange amber, beige head. Not much aroma, but a lot of taste, which I am somehow unable to define.

On tap at Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2012. A medium-sized light beige head sits on top of an unclear, golden-orange body. The aroma has a sugary, syrupy backdrop with notes of pine cones and some canned peaches. It’s a bit sweet on the palate, almost sticky, full-bodied and decently carbonated. White sugar, piney hops and some peaches in the flavor. Fruity and bitter finish with quite a lot of sweetness. Overall, a decent beer, but at the same time a sugary mess. 120511

The pour is a hazy dark amber color with an off-white head. Very fruity nose with some pear and banana. A bit of sugar, some caramel, and toasted bread. There is a bit of spice and some booze, too. The flavor is a little bit boozy, but otherwise a very nice sweetness. Caramel, toasted malt, and brown sugar sweetness along with plenty of fruit character and light spices.
