The Noordhoek Ostrich Farm and Resort has been offering visitors an oasis of silence, tranquility and green pasture since 1997. In 2001 we began offering our guests fresh, homemade ale, "Struise Witte" was born. The dutch word for "ostriches" is "struisvogels" or "Struise", but the same word can also mean "sturdy" or "robust". This "Robust White" is a living wheat beer of high fermentation, unfiltered and unpasteurized. Brewed with natural ingredients, bottle conditioned in 33 cl bottles.

Had this at the De Struise Tap Takeover at Churchkey. Poured a yellow color with a medium sized white head. Aroma was straw, some citrus, hop notes, and yeast. Flavor was yeasty straw, citrus, hops. Was hoping for more.

Bottle cheers to Colin. Pours vibrant orange with no head except for a small white rim around the edge. Orange zest and rind on the nose with light wheat and spice. Some heavy orange and wheat, light zest, lemon rind. A touch cloying and sticky. Not bad but nothing to rave on about

33 cl bottle. Aroma of citrus, orange peel, tropical fruits. Misty blond/yellow, loads of sparkling, white slowly fading head. Fruity taste, orange, pineapple, not that rich. Soft mouthfeel, fresh, light sweet mouthfeel, easy drinking.

Misty in the glass; a sunny orange with very sparse carbonation and headless bar a ring of white on the meniscus. Nose is spicy and yeasty with a lot of sweet and sour fruit like lychee, peach, pineapple and apricot. Doughy and yeasty in the mouth. Sweet, biscuity malts dominate - a witbier? - with a lot of orange juice giving it a tangy, lightly spicy back-end. Finish is on the dryer side seeing the malt and bready yeast fade off to nothing at all. Medium-light bodied, soft in carbonation. Not what I’d call a witbier, but easy drinking none-the-less. 33cl BB02/2014. - Pours a viscous dirty orange. Nose is heavy on sugary yeast right from the onset. Taste and palate dominated by heavy yeasts, liquid syrup, undefinable cloying spices, with alleviating citrus zest barely noticeable in the back. A disappointment only if you’d expect de Struise to stray from their heavy-laden, sticky recipes for this well-defined traditional style. Style rating should be much lower for this, only to do justice to genre-defining Wits like Blanche de Namur and even new Hoegaarden.
