COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Noordhoek Ostrich Farm and Resort has been offering visitors an oasis of silence, tranquility and green pasture since 1997. In 2001 we began offering our guests fresh, homemade ale, "Struise Witte" was born. The dutch word for "ostriches" is "struisvogels" or "Struise", but the same word can also mean "sturdy" or "robust". This "Robust White" is a living wheat beer of high fermentation, unfiltered and unpasteurized. Brewed with natural ingredients, bottle conditioned in 33 cl bottles.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2010 Bottle. Pours out clear yellow lightly golden. Good medium head that holds ok, could be some longer. Very fruity aroma of citrus, bananas, grapefruit and spices. Sweet-sour taste of fruits, lots of fruits and spices. The liquid seems to stick in your mouth, and changes to an aftertastes that holds very good, and gives a pleasant fruity-sweet taste.

Poured into a Struise tulip. Hazy grapefruit pour with a huge lively 3 finger white froth. The aroma is primarily banana, clove, wheat grain, orangepeel, and fruity dough. The flavor is super crisp and dry- excellent after working outside all day. Lots of lemon and orange citrus with wheat grain and hints of yeasty dough. The palate is quite full for the style with a supple mouthfeel and a super crisp finish. A great take on the style.

Bottled sample. Gold in colour with a small amount of haze and medium carbonation. Oddly funky (not in a good way) aroma, backed by a bit of lemon rind. Flavors are of pilsner malt, wheat, gummy wheat, cereal grains, honey, and a bit of lightly toasted nuts. Light bodied. Didn’t seem all that wit-like to me.

Found this in a bottle shop in Omaha, Nebraska of all places. Unique wit. Incredible amounts of citrus, especially lemon. The wheat mellows it out in the middle, giving it a nice, crisp, refreshing flavor. The most citrusy wit I’ve ever encountered. Different but good.

330 ml bottle; thanks Craig!! Soft, cloudy yellow with faint egg white head; zesty sweet with lemons, hay and grass; thin texture with a sour zing going down; zesty spice, oranges, cloves and yeast; pretty nice but a little over done on the spices

330 ML bottle in Germany from Shrubber85. Muddy, orange body. Off-white, nicely laced head. Aroma of oranges, yeast and fresh citrus. Quite complex and well balanced aroma. Lightly bitter, lightly sweet flavour. Quite well balanced and a good complexity for a Witte, but a bit watery.

Various samples at Deca and at the Struise Farm. Pours a cloudy bright yellow with a thin, diminishing white head (less priming sugar used). Aroma is slightly Bretty, some light funk, citrus peels, light spices. Whoa. Taste is fairly tart, like a subdued Berliner Weisse, with green apples, some funky tartness. Very nice. Effervescent carbonation. Openly fermented witbier? Yes please.

Bottle - pours a crystal clear deep yellow color with medium sized pure white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aroma reminds me of champagne. Definite notes of white grapes and strong aspects of honey, with continental malts and hints of apple, pear, and apricots, with a touch of grains of paradise. Flavor has a backbone of continental malts, with honey and tart apples. Finish has a bit of tartness to it. An ok brew, but I would not seek it out again.
