Poured into a tulip glass. Amber color with a half finger of head. Nose full of grain, barley, malt and honey. Rich smelling, just like it should be. Rich taste too. Malty, sweet, a biting bitter at the end. Crisp, moderate carbonation and medium bodied. The taste and the body are excellent. The combination of the malty taste with the crisp body create an amazing experience. After four years of living and drinking my way through Germany, I can confidently say this is probably the best non-Bavarian Oktoberfest beer that I have had.

FROTHINGSLOSH (4547) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 19, 2012
More like a bock to me than a marzen. +++ Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a red-caramel color with a medium sized foamy tan head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was bock like sour caramel and vegetal malts. The flavor was tangy sour caramel with vegetal malts and a vague fruity presence. Medium length tangy caramel and vegetal finish. Medium body and smooth. Ok.

This beer is mildly sweet and malty, maybe slightly fruity. Not the best after taste. I very nice golden brown with very little head :)

Pours ruby with no head. Smell: Caramel, cereal grain and not much else. Taste: Caramel, grain, some hops and a touch of chocolate. Malty finish.

Poured from the bottle. Good head, nice dark orange color. Aroma is typical of lagers, bleh. Flavor is better! Nice caramel sweet flavors. Palate has a nice carbonation, and a medium body. Overall this is much better than sam Adams o Octoberfest

Bottle. Pours with a deep, hazy orange body and a thin, and quick to fade off-white head. Aromas of candy corn, hay and grain. Fresh bagels and caramel. Light iodine on the aroma as well. Flavors of butter, light vegital, grainy, caramel. Not very clean. I do expect a lot better from Sudwerk. I am disappointed (they generally nail a lot of traditional styles). Diacetyl...really no other descriptor. Strong diacetyl. Lively bubbles. Sudwerks can and should do better than this!

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2010 Bottle from Valley Farm. Sweet malty aroma with a little bit of fruitiness. Flavor is fairly malty with a good amount of sweet. Finish has a little hop bitterness. Pretty rich and full bodies. Reminds me of a bock.

16 ounce sample on tap at the brewpub. It is also bottled in 6 packs at the brewery to go. The aroma is rather sweet with more caramel malts and less roasted malts than the regular marzen. Some spicy notes are detected along with scant metallic hints. The aroma is a bit faint. Transparent amber body with a medium-small off-white head that leaves minimal lacing. Starts sweet and caramelly with some chewy maltiness. A good amount of fruity yeast esters then follow. Light nuttiness late with some more lingering sweetness. Ethanol is well-hidden, but this gets a bit cloying as the glass empties. Otherwise, this is fairly easy-drinking.
