COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Choice hops and five different specialty malts are combined to produce this rich, amber and copper-toned lager. Sweeter in flavor than Sudwerk’s other core offerings, the Märzen has a full robust character with a smooth, zen-like finish.

Tasted of soap to me but otherwise a bit of a malt fest as would be expected. Hard to get excited about this one

Clear copper color with no head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, and toasted malt. Rich caramel flavor with nuts and toasted malt. Really nice beer for the style.

From bottle. Pours amber-orange with no head. Rich malt aroma. Taste is malt perfection, very rich, caramel and toffee. Sweet on the palate. Could do with a head on this. Excellent marzen though

Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Amber colour, fizzing, departing head. Sweet, barley sugar aroma. Very pleasant - balanced dryness and sugar hover on the tongue. Short finish, but tight and refreshing.

Location: 12 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 9/20/11

Aroma: The nose is caramel malts, some roast, nutty notes, and a little bit of earth
Appearance: The pour is a clear caramel color with bubbly white head and drops of lace
Flavor: The taste is malty like the nose, rich caramel malts and some light-medium sweetness
Palate: The body is medium, with an average carbonation, a decent mouthfeel, and a slightly dry finish
Overall Impression: This is another solidly made German-style lager from these guys. The ones I’ve tried thus far haven’t been overwhelmingly good, but they have been both true to style and well made. This one fits that bill as well.

12oz. Bottle: Lightly sweet aroma of malt, grain, mash, bread, and toasted toffee. Poured amber in color with a tiny, rocky, off-white head that disappeared very quickly, except for around the edges. Clear. Sparkling. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, bread, and grain. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Malt, grain, bread finish.

UPDATED: OCT 23, 2011 Re-rate - loads of cherries as well as stewed apples on the nose this time. Good malt profile, toffee plus bitter finish. A bit like a bitter done with lager yeast. Creamy, spicy, fruity finish! A dropped point on the appearance. Previous rating 02/09/11 7/5/7/5/15 = 3.9 355ml bottle. Pours a lovely orangey-red colour reiniscent of plum jam. There is a lovely head. The nose has delicate smoke and stewed apples. The taste has plum jam and a gentle smokiness. The palate is medium to large in structure, there’s a gorgeous tangy and creamy texture with a nice elegant clean finish. Overall, I really like this, so interesting but also so well balanced.
