COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Sudwerk Marzen is a full bodied, amber colored lager. Marzen is traditionally brewed in March and enjoyed during Oktoberfest. Due to its popularity we brew this lager all year.

Nose is toasted malts, bread and caramel. I don’t know the pour as I drank it straight down from the bottle. Taste again has caramel and toasted malty taste. The finish is a little like malt loaf. It’s a very enjoyable Marzen. Not the best I’ve had but a brave effort from the Americans.

Deep apricot pour. Fluffy white head. Aroma is very malty, a hint of leather, and cooked carrots(what?). Flavor is very heavy on the malt up front, overripe fruit, almost a meaty flavor. This one was not enjoyable to speak of.

On tap. Pours with a small white head over a clear bronze body. Aromas are bready, toasty, light melanodins, flowery, light alcohol. Flavors are a bit spicy, caramel, some diacetyl that adds a slickness. Missing the complex malt profile of some of the better Marzen’s out there. Missing the melanoidins on the flavor. Lively bubbles. Okay.

Aroma is clean and crisp caramel. Appearance is ruby red caramel. Crystal clear and very attractive. Taste is just right. Caramel crisp with just the slightest hint of roast at the end. Palate is clean and crisp. Overall an excellent Marzen, easily the best American version of the style I have had.

Clear reddish amber with a moderate head and minimal lace. Caramel and slightly roasted malt aromas with a hint of yeast. Toasted malt and caramel flavors, with a modest hops bitterness. Medium body nice carbonation, and a clean malt aftertaste. Quintessence of the style.

Rating from my backlog -- likely from Anchor & Hope in SF. Amber pour with a beige head of foam. Smells and tastes of red apple skins and caramel. Fair.

Draft at Taps Petaluma. Amber with foamy head that doesn’t last. Mild toast and apricot nose. Beery, with light malt and fruit notes. finishes quite cleanly.

Great aroma, and looks great in the glass. It is a bit downhill from there, but not much. A mellow nuttiness wrapped in a muted sweetness. Anything fermented with lager yeast tends to take a hit in the points, but this is great considering.

12oz bottle. An OK lager for those who like the style. Found this one to be sweeter than most with a fruitier taste than typically found in a lager.
