COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Regular. Also available filtered in bottle.
Our porter is named after the native cattle of the region, in line with our main theme, of all thats best in this area of South West Scotland.
The "Galloway" is a hardy hill breed, much sought after for their unique qualities. As the name suggests, this is a very dark brew, which derives it's colour from the abundance of deeply roasted Maris Otter barley and chocolate malts utilised in the brewing process. This is a robust drink, which can be ideal as a winter warmer.

Third Sulwath bottle of the evening: 500ml just out of date when opened on 4th Aug 2012. Dark brown with no ruby red hints I could find: on top a full and fairly deep head of tan coloured foam. Burnt malts of course rule the nose and taste: coffee, dark chocolate and liquorice all in the flavours. Not rich or creamy, but far from watery, a medium depth of body I suppose. OK more than great.

(cask) pours a very dark ruby-brown colour with a frothy beige head. aroma of milk chocolate, brown sugar, light cardboard, sugar icing, cherries and oak. flavour is mostly herbal hops and roasted malts, with a hint of brown sugar, some espresso and a light toasted-bitter finish. light to medium-bodied with soft carbonation.

Very dark chestnut brown, nice rich frothy dense off white head, some lacing
Aroma of roasted malts, toasted cereal, some burnt toast, dark coffee roast
Taste as aroma, roasted malt, dark caramel malts, some sweet dark malts
Palate - Medium carb and body, soft carb after left to settle, some creaminess. Finish of burnt roast, some lingering roast malt.
Overall - Quite a decent flavour, would like to try this on cask

Very tasty slightly bitter porter. Good flavour and right amount of body not too heavy or insubstantial

Quite a sessionable Scottish porter. Pours black, thin head. Fairly malty aroma and oat taste.

On tap at the Counting House, Glasgow. Medium dark beer with a small head. The taste is chocolate and roasted malt. Not the greatest beer around.

Malts, roasted and rich, drive the flavor with chocolate and campfire. I don’t get quite the same degree of satisfaction from the aroma. Very thin in the UK style--thinner than a US porter would offer. Reasonably pleasant anyway. (cask at the Scottish Real Ale Festival, Edinburgh, June 2012)

Cask. Very dark brown, coffee and dark chocolate aroma, taste is sweet, some bitterness and roasted malt. Liquorice is certainly in there. Not too bad.

Bottled. Deep ambery brown colour with a mediumsized creamy/fluffy head, that leaves some lace. Aroma is nutty, chocolaty, mild ashy with some liquorice. Flavour is rather similar. Pleasant, and quite bodied for being 4.4 %.
