Cask at the Standing Order, Edinburgh. Christmas spices - the nutmeg has hijacked the beer. More for marinating meat than for drinking.

Dark with chestnut tints, thin beige head, still manages to leave a nice lacework tho! Good malty spicy nose with hints of coffee & chocolate. The palate is similar but with a touch of sweet malt. The finish is long and lingers well. Despite the relatively low ABV I normally look for in winter ales, this is a crackin’ example. Bottled,from Spar in Langholm.

Cask at standing order (JDW)... deep solid black ... creamy off white head ... rich roast little smokey malts ... rich smooth chocolate ... lots of sooth roast malts .

Pours excellently. Aroma is roasted on the first day, fruity malts on the second, and 5 days now since i put it on its nutty, little banana, floral citrus off the malts. Taste is continuing fruity malts, a little roasty, alcohol has left after a few days, great wee beer.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2007 [Cask from Blackfriars] Black with a tight tan head. Chocolatey, roasty nose, faint spice, cinnamon, nutmeg? medium body, more spice, a little too heavy to session.
