Really pleased to see three different bottles from this brewery at a party (4th Aug 2012): talked to the host and ensured I got all three to try. This was the first: best before 14 July 2012, so just out of date, like the other two. Anyway it was poured into a glass tankard. Light to mid-amber look to it, head of white bubbles, stayed and gave some impressive lacing, so conditioning was good. Bread/biscuity malt aroma, lightly baked, no burnt or heavy maltiness here, or in the taste. Semi-sweet feel to the taste, caramel for sure with that malty molasses taste some brews now seem to have. I’ve a sweet tooth, so I really enjoyed this as my starter for the evening.

Cask by handpump at Last Post, Paisley (26 May 12) - part of battle of the brewers between Houston, Fyne and Sulwath - clear amber ale, thin white head, caramel malt aroma, good temperature, caramel, neither sweet nor bitter, bland, nice

Tasted this in the Last Post, Paisley (JDW) in September 2010. Cask, handpump dispense. Opaque pale amber in colour with a thin creamy white head. Light peach note in the short fruity aroma. Thin resiny mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a digestive biscuit flavour with juicy fruit notes of clemantine and burnt toffee. Dusty hop resins give a dry citrusy edge to the brief aftertaste. Finish is malty with a slight note of marmalade in the mouth. A poor session Golden Ale.

AshtonMcCobb (1447) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - NOV 8, 2011
On tap in Cloisters, Edinburgh. Pours a hazy amber with a good head. The nose has biscuits with a hint of ginger. The taste is more of the ginger biscuits and caramel on the end. The palate has a medium structure a full texture and a finish which could be better - a sweet and cloying unfortunately. Overall, happy to have tried one, but won’t look for it again.

On cask at Cloisters. Pours a slightly hazy golden colour with a thin white head. Musty aroma of burning wood, honey, hay and apple. Barnyard flavours of leather, hay, barley, yeast and apple again. Mild carbonation.

[cask at SRAF’09, Edinburgh] Amber/gold pour with a minimal head. Sweet, malty aromas with some citrus hop and grapefruit. Tasted far stronger than it’s abv, which is something I wasn’t expecting. Reasonable amount of sweetness on the palate, before the dry finish. There’s something that doesn’t seem to tie up the flavours, but it’s certainly drinkable [25062009]

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. It’s a clear, golden beer with a small, white head. It’s quite citrusy on the nose, pale malts in the back. Biscuits and a caramel touch. A bit thin on the palate, with pleasant carbonation. Bitterness, lemon and biscuity malts in the flavor. A rather boring one, but it drinks easily and doesn’t taste bad at all. 110318
