pitch dark, smooth large brown head. mild sweet fruity aroma, pretty strange, also roasted malts. roasted malts, dry, bitter ,faint wood, pretty delicate and tasty, quite peppery strong too. sweet hoppy notes are there ,but the roasted malts have taken over. As they are quite dry, its okay.

Papsoe (25074) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - NOV 30, 2012
Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of madmitch76. Pours an opaque black with a small and creamy brown head leaving a little lacework. Solid, thick roasty nose, not all that burned though. A little whisky too - and manure. Solid body, hard roast, dark dried fruit, rustic woodiness with quite some alcohol in the finish. Rustic but good. 301112

Viscous pour on this with a rich tan head. Sweet malt and coffee bitterness. As spicy note from the whisky typical of the highland malt. Smooth and mellow with a long oily finish. Tasty!

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012, London. Pours thick black with a modest, off-white head. Tons of scorched earth in the nose. Big sweet flavor with further scorched earth character, dirt, dark baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Big baking cocoa finish, with the bitterness that comes along with it. Nice beer. Really nice beer.

Bottle 330ml. @ chriso s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2012.

Clear dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly diminishing, light beige head. Aroma is light heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, dusty, sweet dark malt, wood, butter notes. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, chocolate, dark malt roasted, wood, light vanilla, buzzy alcohol. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. Bottle @ Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig. Pours deep brown with a medium tan head. The nose is burning chocolate, sweet brioche bread, a big shock of vanilla. The taste is light chocolate, plenty of vanilla. Some boozy wood and light peat. Full bodied, soft. Better than the keg edition I sampled earlier this year. Overall, very good. Not quite at the level of the Caol Ila version.
