Black color with giant brownish creamy head. The aroma is initially coffeish, then hints of cream, cold ember, fireplace, some alcohol, spicy, herbal (mint and basil), late hint of cheese; pungent overall; original.
It’s full bodied, yet the mouthfeel is quite lean, and smooth; the flavor of roasted malt and chocolate is very rich, with minimal residual sweetness, maybe some ashes too, more evident in the final; strong expected bitterness level, with hidden hop resins; the final is more roasty, still smooth, with a touch of liquorice, and a bit yeasty; alcohol warmth.
Excellent modern example; the whiskey is not evident.
Tasted side to side with the Caol Ila, this one is more vibrant and richer.

Off keg at port street beer house Manchester. One of my favourite beers of all time. Massive sweet chocolate and coffee. A sort of mousse like texture to it. Just incredible.

Bottle at Chriso’s Pre-GBBF Shindig, 2012, London. Pours thick black with a modest, off-white head. Tons of scorched earth in the nose. Big sweet flavor with further scorched earth character, dirt, dark baking cocoa. Full bodied with fine carbonation and an oily mouthfeel. Big baking cocoa finish, with the bitterness that comes along with it. Nice beer. Really nice beer.

Bottle shared at Ma Che, Roma, 09/02/13. From SBW online. Rich black with a thin tan head that dissipates to the edge. Nose is a big coffee hit, molasses, touch of liqourice, chocolate, dark malts. Taste is a big espresso coffee hit, molasses, liqourice, chocolate, coffee beans, a subtle whisky presence. Full bodied, soft carbonation, dry finish. Excellent stuff - the alcohol is well integrated - could revisit this time and again!

2/VII/13 - 33cl bottle @ De Hopduvel (Gent) - BB: 31/XII/13 (2013-899) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!

Note: somehow I forgot to enter this rating, noticed when I looked up Kopikat and saw only one of the two versions ticked. Good thing I keep my notebooks. :-)

Clear dark purple brown beer, no head. Aroma: sweet, caramel, mocha, bit sugary, alcohol, vanilla, dried fruits, toast, coffee, some bubble gum, some vegetables. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body. Taste: little sour, fruity, dark forest fruits, red wine, bit sweet, caramel. Aftertaste: bit boozy, sugary, alcohol, caramel, sour dark red fruits, blackberries, hoppy ending, some jam, boozy. Desert in a bottle!
