Commercial Description:
Summit Extra Pale Ale is not a beer brewed only for beer snobs. Just the opposite. It’s a beer for everyone to enjoy: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, sales people, clerks, teachers, lawyers, doctors, even other brewers. Its light bronze color and distinctly hoppy flavor have made it a favorite in St. Paul, Minneapolis and the rest of the Upper Midwest ever since we first brewed it back in 1986.

A bit of a lemmon smell and a nice bronze color upon pour into a glass with a small head. This beer has a mild hoppy and fruity taste with a clean finish. A very drinkable pale ale.

2008 Bottle. A good standard EPA. Smells of floral hops. Tastes strongly of hops, not much more...maybe a little wheat. Light bitter aftertaste. It’s just a simple, straightforward EPA. Not much special or not much bad here either.

Clear light amber with a slight head. Mild aroma is spicy malts with a whiff of floral hop. medium body. Good pale bready malt flavor is lightly sweet. Finishes with a nicely bitter floral hop bite. Olde skool pale here.

12oz bottle. Pours a clear, bright orange-amber color; off-white head with good retention and fine-bubbled lacing; solid pour. Solid amounts of earthy, English bitterness and basic sugary maltiness in the aroma; some citrus. Lively, fluffy carbonation. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: lots of chewy, resiny, earthy and citrus hoppiness upfront; basic core of crackers, simple sugar, and lightly burnt toast; not exactly watery, but lacking a bit of concentration; very drinkable but not immensely satisfying or developed. Medium finish: dry toasty malts, crackers, and solid bitterness.

Pours a hazy amber with a medium frothy sudsy off-white head. Nice aroma of sweet pineapples, some grapefruit, light resin and some caramel. Pretty chewy stuff... mostly citrus followed by some sweet caramel and bitter salty pine. Sugary sweet. Cardboard yucky malt finish is its main downfall. A pretty good well loaded beer. Full flavored but still a lighter mouthful.

This is a hometown beer for me so it is usually fresh and I generally drink it on tap if nothing more interesting is available. Aroma and appearance are standard for the style with a thin head and modest citrus on the nose. You can taste the hops but there is no overwhelming bitterness. Really a rather tasty and refreshing brew.
