Summit Extra Pale Ale is not a beer brewed only for beer snobs. Just the opposite. Itís a beer for everyone to enjoy: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, sales people, clerks, teachers, lawyers, doctors, even other brewers. Its light bronze color and distinctly hoppy flavor have made it a favorite in St. Paul, Minneapolis and the rest of the Upper Midwest ever since we first brewed it back in 1986.

Draft, Minneapolis. Nice to see a larger craft brewer whose flagship brand is not the usual pale pilsner. And nice to see that it's readily available on tap in the Twin Cities (it's even on a few taps here in Chicago). A pleasing amber/copper color, toasty malty sweetness and a refined hop spiciness... definitely not IPA level, but enough to tell the novice beer drinker there's another world out there. Great with those Matt's hamburgers with the cheese fried inside the patty (a Minneapolis tradition my brother introduced me to)!

Bottle. A- Pine, gummy bears, oranges, citrus, juicy. A- Golden orange color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Pine, slightly bitter, juicy, oranges, gummy bears. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, juicy finish. O- After having the Summit IPA, I was leery about this one as I didnít like it, but damn this one turned out fine. Tons of juicy hops that remind me of orange gummy bears. Not overly bitter and definitely refreshing.

Summit Extra Pale Ale offers a dizzying list of people who are apparently good candidates for drinking this stuff: construction workers, stock brokers, farmers, etc. While I do like approachable hoppy ales, Iím most impressed by the binary botanical beers; the aggressive hop-infused ales that will amaze the people theyíre brewed for and alienate the rest. Yeah, Extra Pale Ale isnít that beer. Its aim is for the masses. In this case, "extra" definitely doesnít mean more hops. With a very strong bread/yeast note, this ale is malt-forward. I liked this brew, but I sure didnít enjoy it the way I did Summitís Sage IPA.

12 oz bottle in Minneapolis, MN. A solid but unremarkable PA. Moderately bitter with plenty of hoop flavor for style. Somewhat complex hop flavor mix.

Hoppy aroma and flavor. Very drinkable, especially coming in from the heat.

Can, at Eaux Claires music festival. Drank a lot of this at the festival, and really enjoyed it for a hot summer day. Surprisingly hoppy, with a nice citrus bitterness up front balanced by a light toasty malt character and very drinkable. Nothing terribly special, but did the trick.

From my backlogg: Sample at Great British Beer Festival 2014. Clear golden beer with an offwhite head. Fruity hoppy citrus caramell aroma. Fruity hoppy grassy flavour.

Tap at a twins game. Orange gold pour. Nose is light piney hops and pale malt. Tastes of pine, caramel, straw, pale malt, and some citrus. Light earthy aftertaste. Rather plain but drinkable and enjoyable on fine day for ballgame

This is a good pale ale, but it is not quite as good as Boulevardís Pale Ale.
