Poured from bottle into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a nice clear copper color with a two finger head of off white foam. Tons of little carbonation bubbles are seen streaming up through the brew as the head slowly fades leaving a good deal of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is biggest of a caramel sweetness mixed with some fruit aromas of both stone fruits as well as an apple, orange and grapefruit smell. Along with the sweet, comes some aromas of a more bready smell as well as some hint of rye and a peppery spice.
Taste – The taste begins with a lighter caramel sweetness as well as a more smooth bready taste. The smoothness of the bread quickly fades however with the taste growing more grainy in nature with some more pronounced rye coming to the tongue as well. The rye brings with it some spice as well as some hop flavors of an herbal and pine nature. With the caramel sweetness fading as the taste moves on to the end, and some hay-like flavors and a little bit of a grapefruit citrus hop flavor coming to the tongue and mixing with the rest of the rye, spice and other hop flavors, one is left with a somewhat dry rye taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thicker and creamier side with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. The slightly thicker body and higher carbonation are actually quite nice for the initial bready and smooth flavors of the brew and with the higher carbonation persisting to the end of the taste, it does help spice up the dryer and rye flavors, giving an overall good feel for the flavor profile.
Overall – A rather nice easy drinking rye overall. While not top class it is more moderate in abv. then most rye’s and is rather affordable. A decent go to rye.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours dark golden/chestnut, slight thin head, nice lacing. Aroma nutty, slight roast, fresh rye, slight caramel malt, no real hop aroma detected. Taste spicy rye up front, nutty and roast, caramel malt in background, slight earthy hops, a tiny bit of citrus detected as well. Mouthfeel on the thin side of medium body lowish carbonation, spicy bite, slightly dry finish. Overall good beer, interesting, but not enough to want to seek out.

[Bottle] Deep brown color with quickly receding light brown foam on top. Aroma is of sticky malts with a touch of rye spiciness. Taste includes rye, brown sugar, burnt caramel malts, earthy hops and light cocoa notes. Mildly astringent. Medium bodied. Not bad.

1.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
From a bottle this is a big dark looking thing, a little darker it could be a black ipa. Taste is big nasty nellie hop and rye bullshit taste bud smasher. Are you sure this is 5.8%, seems like a lot more. i think it makes me a little dizzy with the big gulps or is that just the IPA attitude smacking me in the back of the head? Long bitter, ruin my taset bud numbness for an hour. wew Can’t appreciate these beers that are so IPA. The next ubiquitous beer, IPA and IPA wannah beez.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a big, dense creamy beige head. Roma has obvious notes of rye, along with caramel malt and citrus hops. Upfront flavor is all malt with more obvious rye and bittersweet roasted caramel. Spicy citrus hops emerge in the mid taste, along with notes of nuts and mustard seed. Complex and flavorful with a medium body. Finish is dry and chewy.
