2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 CanIHave4Beers (2002) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - NOV 25, 2009
Plenty of pleasantries here, but there are plenty of things I don’t like as well. The beer pours a nice hazy yellow color with a big rocky white head. The aroma is spicy with some bananas and some good mineral qualities, there is a light fruitiness and breadiness, but despite all the aromas detected this is a pretty faint smelling beer. The flavor is at first of an odd mineral nature with some alcohol and iodine. There is a fair astringency here but there are nice flavors too like the banana and citrus and the hop bitterness shines through very well, the dominant flavors (which are the good ones) save this from being something I don’t like at all.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 thirdeye11 (3911) - Dallas, Texas, USA - NOV 21, 2009
( 12oz bottle thanks to blutt59) Pours very clear pale yellow. Nose of wheat, spices. Taste is lager-like, spices, cloves, and I really don’t think it’s a hefeweizen.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bsp77 (724) - Minnesota, USA - OCT 28, 2009
UPDATED: SEP 6, 2011 Serving glass: Poured from bottle into water glass at work.
Appearance: Cloudy orange with a foamy head.
Aroma: Some wheatiness with strong bananas and some cloves.
Taste: Mostly semi-sweet wheat malt, with nice balance of bananas and clove. Light hop spiciness at the end. Slightly watered down for a Hefeweizen, but pretty good overall.
Palate: Moderate carbonation, fairly light, dry finish.
Overall: Very light and easy to drink, but also a little light on flavor. I prefer other Hefeweizens, including Schell’s, which is also local.
Edit: I changed this review quite a bit on May 1st, 2010, because this year’s batch was better than last year’s, which was weaker than normal.

Bottle. Looks nice in the glass with a pleasant aroma that is slightly sweet. Smooth on the tongue with citrus undertones. Refreshing. Overall, pretty decent for the style.

Bottle: Pours a dusty golden/yellow color with a small, short lived white head. Very light aroma is wheat, cloves, yeast, and bananas. The flavor is deep in wheat tones with cloves, apples, cinnamon, and a little husky/bready thing in the end. Still finishes crisp and clean.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden with a white head. I forgot to swirl the yeast around, so it’s only lightly hazy. Aroma is of cloves and bubblegum. Flavors of wheat, cloves and biscuit. On the light side, but still pleasant to drink.
