COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Horizon Red Ale – an emerging American hybrid ale that crosses the boundaries of styles. This red-hued ale projects an intensity of complex hops – yet allows the drinker to experience the balance and character of the malt. Floral, dry, hoppy and satisfying. Beautifully dry hopped, Horizon Red Ale will be considered a classic.

One of 3 summit beers that I always enjoy! Aroma is spot on for a red and has a nutty, and mild hops. Palate is full and it pours a deep dark red, very beautiful. Love this beer.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 3/11/2013. Pours moderately cloudy reddish copper color with a 1-2 finger dense cream colored head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, grapefruit, orange zest, floral, pine, toast, biscuit, brown sugar, and floral earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt and hop notes; with decent strength. Taste of caramel, orange zest, grapefruit, floral, pine, grass, biscuit, brown sugar, and floral earthiness. Fair amount of pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, citrus, citrus zest, floral, pine, grass, biscuit, brown sugar, and floral earthiness on the finish for a short bit. Nice balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; with a hop forward flavor balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy, sticky, and crisp mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice red ale. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt notes; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Draft at brewery. Nice sweet hoppy aroma with a hint of roasted malt. Clear dark amber body with beautiful off white sheet lace. Plenty of hops in the flavor. Really nice balance. Forgot how much I like this. Way better than EPA.

Pleasant caramel nose. Nice maltiness mixed with subtle hoppiness . Nice sweet mouth feel. Finish was long and really bitter. Just not a tasty finish and ruined experience for me

Poured from a 12oz. bottle to tulip. As a Minneapolis native I’ve had the opportunity to taste a great deal of Summit’s offerings. The Horizon Ale now becomes one I will seek out with relish. I found the aroma to be quite intriguing. There is a rich earthy hop aroma followed with hints of toffee, prune and some citrus. The appearance is of a rich cherry wood with a creamy tan head that last. The lacing is sticky and consistent in the glass. Full disclosure I am a hophead, but do enjoy many styles of brew. The hops in this one are very nice. They make their presence know through out the swallow and linger during the delightful aftertaste. The malt is there in good stead nutty and light caramel or toffee. I don’t know all the parameters of the red ale style but I think this would have a wide appeal to anyone who likes Brown Ale, Porter or IPAs. It seems to interplay well within all those styles. It certainly provides a better hop experience than many IPAs i’ve enjoyed. The beer stands in a very nice area of being sessionable or a relaxing sipper. Perhaps it’s best feature is how well it would pair with a great variety of foods. From lamb to BBQ to a nice sharp cheese or even something with a tangy sauce..I think this would be an excellent choice. Try it and Enjoy.

On tap at Capone's in Norristown, PA. I feel a bit guilty because I got an awesome free Summit pint glass for buying this beer, I really didn't enjoy any of the Summit beers I had that night. This was very wheaty tasting for what I'm used to out of a red ale, which was not a good difference in my book.
