COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Pours gold with a fizzy offwhite head. Smell is bready, and lightly malty with a grain like smell to it. Taste is also quite grain like and bready but pretty light bodied and with a touch of an apricot flavor. Some light hops to finish it off and a light tartness about it. Different than your typical pale lager in flavor, at least, but not particularly exciting. Decent, drinkable intro craft beer.

Smell, sweet bready, noble hoppy. Taste: crisp, dried fruit, slight bitterness. Biscuity. M/D: Very nice drinkability. The 7% abv is a surprise. Nice mid level ground between a doppelbock and a Helles. A nice addition to the Texas beer selection. Serving type: bottle

12 ounce bottle courtesy of Skyview... the LAST of the local tis the season swap. Too bad. Pours a clear copper color with a medium head. Average head retention and lacing. I find the aroma very odd with sweetish and slightly toasted malts and lots of overcooked corn. Some nuttiness. Taste is toasted malts, caramel, corn and bitter hops. Medium bodied. Odd one.

Hazy gold pour. Mild, sweet aroma. Lots of malt sweetness with some decent fruity notes (apricot, orange). Pretty rich palate. Alcohol is well hidden. Another solid beer from Summit.

UPDATED: APR 27, 2010 22oz bomber bottle. Hazy, glowing golden-orange color with a healthy thick head. Mellow lager aroma. Sweet and thick on the palate, very smooth. Subtle fruity yeast and malt characteristics. Some light sandy carbonation and hops in the background. Quite rich and delicious, this is really an excellent example of the Heller Bock. Well done.

Naka (630) - Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 21, 2008
Courtesy of Juart. Pours a clear orange golden color with a small fizzy head that was gone after a few seconds. Aroma is a spicy apricot possibly some corn. The flavor is a nice bitter w/ some almost sour citrus character. Grainy and bitey. Medium body that leaves a mild bitterness on the palate. Decent Maibock that kind of doesn’t really fit the style all that well.

22 oz. bottle shared with Naka. Pours orange with amber hues, small white head. Nose is corn and caramel with mild bright fruit, citrus and apple. Taste is apple and citrus fruit with mild toffee and caramel. Rather forward alcohol presence in heat and flavor and an unexpected bitter make the finish interesting with an odd bitter and alcohol after lingering with a butter-esque feel. Not bad.

Pours a clear golden yellow with a small white froth head. Aroma is sweet and malty with a lot of graininess. Some biscuit and bread as well. Flavor starts out with a quick bit of sweetness from that malt but then gets hit with some mild apple juice like tartness. Crisp finish that is still sweet but some bitterness lingers. Medium body and average carbonation. Something doesn’t seem balanced about this beer, I think it is soo malty and grainy and the hops don’t balance at all.
