COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Early German monks created “bock” beer as a hearty beverage that would help sustain them during their Lenten fasts. The first bock beers were dark, but soon came “blonder” styles such as maibock. Maibocks have a rich, malty, full flavor. And, since our first brewhouse was from Heimertingen in Bavaria, we’ve honored that heritage by giving the name to our first lager beer.“Bock,” by the way, is German for “male goat.” It doesn’t make sense to us either.

Draft sample at Ike’s in the Minneapolis Airport. Pale amber in colour with medium carbonation. Aromas are of bready and toasted malts, mild citrusy hops, and minerals. Rich bready malts upfront in the mouth, but surprisingly c-hoppy and bitter on the back end. Medium bodied. Fairly drinkable, but not really what I was expecting in the hop department from a maibock.

It’s OK, but more like a non-descript lager than a maibock--none of the malty richness of a bock. A little bit of that lager cardboard flavor. Not my favorite summit.

Orange with a thick frothy head. Light hop smell followed with a bitter taste with some malt behind it - maybe a slight taste of grass. Finish is bitter, but not with hops.

The aroma, I can tell right away, is very strong in hops and yeast. The appearance is golden-amber, with very little head. The taste is rather subtle; some sourness is noted. It has a medium body, and I do notice immediately that it’s a very smooth beer, so it has that going for it! Overall, it’s a fine beer; I’d drink it again, but I won’t be going out of my way to get more.

12oz bottle 3/31/10 (Binny’s Plainfield)-50° in Shaker-Pours a dark golden light amber with a small white head. Aroma of malt and hops. Taste of malt, caramel, and hops. This medium bodied brew is pretty tasty but not one of my favorite styles.

Sweet, smooth a hint of hops. Thin like the other Summit beers, but the best of the lot. A nice spring beer.

Bottle. Gold pour, thin white head. Sweet nose with some caramel, taste is malt, bread, a little caramel. Not great.
