We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

Pours a clear orange. Really clear. About half a finger of head. Smell is heavy on citrus, with a tinge of malt sweetness. The taste starts with bitterness, mellows into a sweet fruity hop and malt magic, and finishes with a lighter, dry bitterness in the back of your mouth. Centennial hops make an appearance, and an almost plum-like flavor is present. Is that Rakau? I’ve never had a beer with that hop before. Overall, I like this beer quite a bit. Much better than the standard Summit IPA offering.

Bottle. Clear medium golden pour, a little lasting head and lacing and a sweet hoppy nose. Flavor is incredibly fruity, plenty of apricots and other tropical fruit with a nice strong hoppy bite on the finish. I like it, and will sure be back for more.

Poured a nice golden amber color with a frothy white head, had some a nice citrus scent and a smooth bitter taste.

UPDATED: MAR 28, 2014 Pours a deep amber color. Good lacing, white head. The unusual rakau hops make this pretty fun and different. A solid IPA. Revising after having another. It might be the best beer made by Summit.

Pours a deep, clear golden with a foamy white head and plenty of lacing. Aroma is grassy hops and citrus fruit. Flavor is grassy hops with sweet citrus. Medium body with medium carbonation. Very good bitterness in this one.

[Bottle] Pours clear gold with a small white head. Aroma is minty, herbal hops, a touch of garlic, really strange. The first whiff right out of the bottle was straight tropical fruit. The flavor is really similar. The tropical flavor is pretty muted. The bitterness is slightly coarse, but nice, and lingers a long time. A bit of a letdown considering all the good things I heard before trying it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Pours amber-golden with thick white head. Aroma has some good tropical fruit, resin and overall a pronounced citrus herbal feel. Flavor upfront has slight sweetness with hop resin tingle followed by dry and long-lingering and lightly bitter hop resin aftertaste. A good IPA for the older generation of microbrewery with a nice delicacy as well as a bit of experimentation- a little smoother than Torpedo and not as high of an abv and a creative use of exotic hops. I will say, however, that Green Flash was doing this better 10 years ago and leave it at that. If there is any justice, it should be added to the list of potent potables in twin cities alongside Furious, Bermuda Triangle and Westside.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Heritage Liquors in Maplewood, MN. Pours a clear golden amber colored IPA with a decent sized, rocky off-white head with excellent retention and lacing. Aroma of pine, apricots, a hint of tangerine, golden grain malt, and a hint of tropical fruits. Taste is medium bodied, lot of citrusy and pine flavors, tangerines, some lime zest, grapefruit and multi-golden grain malt. Finish is mildy bitter that slowly disappears but does not linger like most other IPAs. Lots of hop profile flavors without the lingering bitterness is the best way to describe this outstanding hoppy ale.
