We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

Draft. Clear golden color, small white head, solid lacing. Aroma of freshly cut wet grass and anise, wow! Taste is bitter lemon, grass, flowers. Good stuff.

I thought this was the best of five beers I drank with my neighbor by our backyard fire, and the scores appear to confirm that. Nice label. Here’s another beer that has gone the way of using the New Zealand hops, and I’m loving this trend. It makes for a much more subtle and interesting beer than the Cascade. Really big fruity nose in particular, laced with passionfruit and pine. I can see the kiwi, too. Well rounded and balanced. Very enjoyable in the IPA world. Bottle.

Tap. Dark caramel color with a small white head. For once there is a summit beer that smells extremely appetizing, as the hop aromas jump out of the glass. Loads of melon and citrus. Orange and mango are up front. There may be some batch variation as I’ve had some pints that have a definite musk/BO aroma. This is very nice, though. Taste is filled with tropical fruits, pineapple, and a bit of musky hops. Really enjoy it even with that slight BO character. I hear people saying this is a good beer for Summit beers, but I personally think this is just a good beef no matter who made it.

Nose is big centennial, with maybe some Amarillo in there. Light honey malt in the background. None of the fruit notes for me. Head is medium creamyness, didn’t stick around long. Color is a slightly hazy golden light amber. Taste is very similar to the nose, Maybe only the slightest little fruit note. Maybe it has dropped out since the bottle is a few weeks old. This brew is fairly similar to Summit’s other offerings. Mouthfeel is a bit watery, and the flavor is just lacking something. Overall good beer. Enjoyability 3.5/5

UPDATED: JUN 6, 2014 Pours a copper color with prominent white fluffy head; quite attractive. Malty, fruity and hoppy aroma. Taste is biscuity with notes of tropical fruit, pine and a big grassy citrus hop balance. Good malt backbone; clean & crisp. Good flavors all around...a high quality IPA.

12oz bottle pours a bright golden/orange with a large white head. Aroma of resinous hops, lots of tropical fruits and citrus. Taste has a nice well rounded hop bitterness with sweet fruits. A little light on the flavor altogether but still really nice, clean and refreshing.

Pours a clear gold with a thick lt tan head...great lacing. Aroma is very herbal...mild melon notes. Flavor follows suit...herbal and spicy with noted of melon and kiwi. Mouthfeel is light and silky with a dry and very herbal/bitter finish.

Bottle: Dark gold pour with a medium off white head. aroma of tropical fruit, apricot as well. some biscuit and caramel under that. flavour is floral and fruity hop. biscuity flat malt under that. Expected a bit more of a firm malt body as summit usually does.

Squat bottle from Capone’s. Pours clear dark straw with 2-finger off-white head. Nose is...oh my God, Bob Griese, lemme tell ya bout the nose. A huge concoction of that great Citra hop that has quickly become my favortie; tons of tangerine, honeydew, kiwi, mango, passion fruit, pine nuts, resiny sticky hops and tropical fruit all over the place, and malt to spare. The taste is that great Citra hop tropical fruit flavor, complex, with caramel malt to balance. Finishes hoppy and fruity, this one is awesome.
