We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

Pours a clear orange. Really clear. About half a finger of head. Smell is heavy on citrus, with a tinge of malt sweetness. The taste starts with bitterness, mellows into a sweet fruity hop and malt magic, and finishes with a lighter, dry bitterness in the back of your mouth. Centennial hops make an appearance, and an almost plum-like flavor is present. Is that Rakau? I’ve never had a beer with that hop before. Overall, I like this beer quite a bit. Much better than the standard Summit IPA offering.

Out of can.....Nice aroma of fresh hops, notes of citrusy grapefruit and some grass. Nice deep yellow with orange color...huge tan head. Btterness up front, then sweet malt balances quickly. Bitterness is smooth. Finishes with nice combo of bitter and sweet balanced very well. Medium body with a long aftertase of bitterness, that is not off-putting. Solid IPA.

Amazingly fruity but still high in hops. Perfect for the outdoors. Recommend cold for the crisp flavors to show and the fruits can show a little as it warms.

Can thanks to the Hoff. Pours copper with a clingy off white head. Aroma is very tropical, lemon, mango, pineapple, grapefruit. Caramel malt backbone leads into grapefruit and pineapple then finishes with grapefruit and grassy bitterness.

Transfer from BA review on 3-19-13- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance –The beer is served a lightly hazed golden yellow color with a one finger white head that fades relatively quickly. Upon fading there is a decent level of lace left on the sides of the glass. Smell – The aroma is heaviest of some sweet caramel and orange as well as a bready malt and a strong hop aroma of a red grapefruit and some lighter pine. Taste – The taste begins with a bready flavor upfront with flavors of some orange mixed within. Upfront there is also a moderate grapefruit hop grapefruit taste. The grapefruit starts out of medium strength growing stronger and more bitter as the taste advances. While the grapefruit grows stronger, a caramel flavor takes the place of the orange that is present upfront with the orange again joining the caramel at the end. At the end of the taste, the grapefruit which is now quite bitter, mixed with a light piney taste as well as the lighter sweet flavors of citrus and caramel to leave a quite long lingering bitter grapefruit taste on the tongue. Mouthfeel –The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is rather average. Both are rather good for keeping it on the very drinkable side, but still showcasing some of the nice bitter hop flavors of the brew. Overall – A pretty nice more bitter lingering IPA. If you are looking for an affordable and bitter grapefruit citrus heavy beer that leaves its mark on your tongue then this is a good choice.

On tap in Minot ND. Aroma: Appearance: finger white head, golden amber color, clear. Aroma: floral, pine, caramel, light citrus. Palate: average carbonation, bitter finish, sticky texture. Taste:caramel malt sweetness into light pine sweet with plenty of bitterness coming up on the back. Overall, a bit too sweet for me, but other than that, amazing.
