We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

Amber-gold colored, slightly hazy, with a moderate head when poured. The aroma shows grapefruit, mango, light caramel, and a metallic scent that distracts from an otherwise pleasant aroma. No metallic flavors; just a solid tasting IPA. The major thing going on here is a tropical fruit hop profile with a light but sturdy malty body. There’s a little sticky pine too. Dry and bitter in the finish but nothing extreme. It probably needs to be more aggressively hopped to get a higher rating than this but overall I found it to be a good IPA.

Pours a cloudy golden color with white head. Citrus, spice, spruce, and some earth on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with some hop resin.

Draft at Fermentation. Golden pur with a frothy white head. Nose is citrusy and pine like hops with some sweet malt backbone. Flavor is similar with some more tropical fruitiness and spice. Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Not bad.

Clear golden amber white head. Citrus zest, light floral fruit, faint pine and caramel. Moderate pine and citrus flavor with trailing bitterness. Little malt coming through. Medium crisp palate. Crazy drinkable, but could be beefed up in the aroma quite a bit and flavor to a lesser extent. Definitely above average, but could be great.

Clear amber color. Average head and body. Flavor leans to fruity hops with limited bitterness.

Super clear burnt orange; first aroma is a big, dank and dirty grapefruit-pineapple rind combo; it almost imitates a kind of funkiness with just how dirty it is. Biscuit, apricot, flowers, and cotton candy creep in slowly to soften it lightly, and nicely. That sensation grows, and it seems to have more in common with the floral-forward examples than the danker west coast ones. The dirtiness of the initial aroma does tend to hang around and it doesn’t blend well.

But then the hops taste really quite tropical; golden kiwis, mangoes, oranges; underlaid with lots of clean, honeyed malt that supports it perfectly. The body is rounded and firm, and sticky in the finish, offering mostly those same fruits and some syrupy weed to linger around for a while. This is a fine but quiet example that doesn’t let any of its qualities be outstanding.

Bottle- Pours a honey golden color with a good head that fades slowly to ample lacing. Aroma of citrus and pine with hint of herbs. Nice clean smell. Taste of grapefruit with a bit of pine. Has a mild sweetness and an easy bitterness with a dry finish. Fairly medium body, smooth with a nice balance. Good drinker that goes down easy. Worth checking out.
