COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We’re proud to announce the new Summit Sága IPA, a decidedly different hop-forward brew due out in early May 2012. The beer has pronounced hop flavors and aromas of kiwi, passionfruit, apricot and gooseberry. Clean, assertive bitterness with balancing Pale malt characteristics. We hop it with the rare New Zealand Rakau hop along with Citra, Centennial and Amarillo. Named after the Norse Goddess of Poetry, who was the God Odin’s drinking companion... also, it was quite a saga to pick a name!

On tap, at various taverns and 12 oz bottle poured into pint glass. This one is a winner. The folks at Summit have outdone themselves. Very nice slightly pale amber, with crisp aromatic head. Very hoppy like most IPAs but a little more citrusy, flowery character, allowing more of the malt body through. It just has an overall predominant freshness to it. It’s hoppy without getting bogged down like some IPAs do. This really hits all the right notes for me. Summit EPA will always be their standard bearer, and rightfully so. It’s still my goto beer in on many nights out. But Saga may well be my new favorite Summit.

bottle - Pours copper with a one finger off-white head. It has a citrus hop aroma. The flavor is balanced as IPAs go with assertive hop bitterness and a sweet malt backing with a hint of caramel. Medium bodied. Pleasant enough lingering bitterness. To me it’s a fairly good IPA but not quite as good in its style as others have rated it.

bottle, although mine looks different than the picture. maybe I got a fake. I hope not. anyway. nose full of dank with some earthiness and moderate notes of citrus and pine. hazy orange pour with small head. initial taste is a touch sweet and fruity like a cantaloupe with some pineapple flavor too. bitterness kicks in quickly and kicks in a harsh astringency. I wish the sweetness and bitterness were both toned down to allow more of the hops to shine in the flavor. the drying finish from the bitterness is rough on the tongue. Half way through the glass I’m adjusted to it, but I think my tongue feels like someone grabbed it and ran it through a grinder and then stuck a hairy toupee on it.

Typical ipa hoppy aroma but more sweet and less BO. Yes, from a bottle the first taste impressions are IPA, fer sure. Rather dull but not fully processed flavors. Date code 3/16/14. Yes, typical tasty IPA, even tho I don’t get this style it is rather IPA-ish. Perhaps not as much as this site rates it in its style but OK, I guess. Goes down fairly easy when the second half is drank write from the bottle. Decently weak co2 but bare able. Still, it has this nasty on style finish as with most bitter ipa.

At the Big Texas Beer Fest on 4/5/2014. Draft pours orange thin small head. Aroma is muted hops, thin hops, not much there. Taste is dry cardboard hopiness, a little bitter and on the rough side.

A: Medium gold, hazy, and small white bubbly head. S: Some citrus/orange pine and strong presence of the malt. T: Citrus is up front, with some toasty caramel. M: Medium body, semi-sweet but not a lot. Nice feel. O: Pretty solid and easy drinking IPA.

Bottle. Clear yellow pour with a white head. Mild grapefruit hop aromas. Somewhat bland with mild grapefruit hop notes. A bit on the unbalanced side with a below average mouthfeel.

12 oz bottle from Hy-Vee Muscatine. Golden, pale and pretty clear with a sticky white head. Nice fresh aroma of tropical fruits, citrus hops, floral notes, herbs and light pale malts. Similar flavor, crisp, hoppy and lightly fruity with medium bitterness and a touch of malty sweetness. Medium body with a clean, smooth feel, easy to drink. Wow I am impressed.

Bottle. Pours clear pale gold with white fizzy head; splotchy lacing. Aroma is floral hops along with citrus and tropical fruit; some light biscuity malt in the background. Taste is decidedly bitter with citrus rind present. Nice and juicy. Crisp clean palate; not too heavy. Nice brew, could probably drink a few of these.

Bright orange pour of medium clarity and a quarter inch of white head, moderate bubbles rising from the glass. Carbonation is farely lively, mouthfeel foamy, very very clean finish. Really nice citrus hop nose, robust and rounded out by a biscuity malt presence. Taste is superb, crisp and juicy. Fresh very juicy citrus hops, floral and tropical fruits, strong citrus rind too. Very well done IPA from summit. May be more potent out of the bottle if my memory serves me right.
